Job Description The Vice President of Engineering at HM Alpha Hotels & Resorts provides strategic leadership and expertise in engineering and facilities management across the portfolio. This role is responsible for overseeing property maintenance operations, renovations, energy conservation efforts, and asset protection to drive guest satisfaction and business performance. As a key business partner to property General Managers, Facility Engineers, Cluster Engineering Managers, Chief Engineers, Directors of Engineering, and senior leadership, the Vice President ensures the effective execution of projects, operational efficiency, and compliance with safety regulations. This leader develops and implements preventative maintenance programs, supports property engineering teams, and spearheads capital improvement initiatives. Operating in a complex matrix environment, the Vice President balances the expectations of the properties, the brands, and the engineering discipline while aligning strategies with broader company objectives. By evaluating risks, identifying opportunities for improvement, and implementing enterprise-level systems and processes, this role is instrumental in optimizing engineering performance and enhancing the guest experience. Responsibilities • Provide functional and business expertise to develop high-quality engineering services and talent, ensuring guest satisfaction and maximizing ROI. • Lead the engineering function by setting priorities aligned with corporate and brand goals, identifying service improvements, and driving competitive strategies. • Serve as a change agent, overseeing the implementation of key programs and initiatives while ensuring consistency in engineering practices. • Partner with General Managers, Chief Engineers, and senior leadership to enhance technical and business acumen, enabling optimal decision-making. • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, evaluating structural, system, and talent changes to support business objectives effectively. • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to enhance operational efficiency and asset longevity. • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems to optimize performance and guest comfort. • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, ADA requirements, environmental policies (EPA, CFC, toxic waste, recycling), and local, state, and federal building codes. • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments, implementing corrective actions to mitigate risks and maintain high safety standards. • Collaborate with local authorities and fire departments to meet life safety regulations and enhance emergency preparedness. • Lead energy conservation and environmental stewardship initiatives, aligning with corporate sustainability goals. • Evaluate and implement energy-efficient solutions to reduce operating costs while maintaining brand and regulatory standards. • Monitor system performance across all properties, proactively addressing inefficiencies and recommending improvements. • Partner with ownership and executive leadership to develop capital expenditure plans for engineering-related projects. • Oversee large-scale renovations and property improvement projects, including contractor selection, budget management, and project execution. • Identify and implement cost-effective solutions for property upgrades while maintaining brand consistency. • Manage engineering budgets across all properties, optimizing expenses without compromising safety, guest experience, or operational excellence. • Provide training and mentorship to property engineering teams, fostering a culture of excellence, compliance, and continuous learning. • Assist in recruiting, hiring, and onboarding new engineering leadership to strengthen property-level expertise. • Establish and manage relationships with vendors, contractors, and suppliers, negotiate favorable service agreements to optimize costs. Education and Training • High school diploma required. A 2-year or 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university is preferred. Alternatively, equivalent related work experience that provides comparable knowledge will be considered. Skills and Abilities Certifications: Facilities-related certifications such as CEOE, IFMA, or FMA are preferred. Technical Expertise: Strong working knowledge of multiple trades, with a thorough understanding and practical application of Engineering Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Systems Knowledge: Extensive experience with HVAC, mechanical, and electrical systems, as well as expertise in carpentry, painting, vinyl work, and Life Safety Systems. Facilities & Project Management: Proven experience in managing and operating a central plant, along with overseeing CEP project construction. Regulatory Compliance: Deep understanding of ADA, OSHA, and environmental regulations, including EPA standards, CFC handling, toxic waste management, recycling practices, and engineering SOPs. Knowledge and Experience • A minimum of 10 years in hotel facilities management, including experience at four or more properties and exposure to at least two different hotel brands. Experience at the corporate, regional, or market leadership level may also count toward brand experience. • At least two years of experience as a Chief Engineer or a comparable leadership role in engineering and facilities management.
