About African Ancestry Link (AAL) African Ancestry Link is a nonprofit organization connecting Heritage, Health, and Home across the African continent and diaspora. Through DNA, storytelling, and culture, we help people rediscover their ancestral roots, preserve oral histories, and celebrate African identity through technology and education. The Heritage & Ancestry Advisory Council (HAAC) focuses on cultural storytelling, diaspora engagement, oral history preservation, and community heritage programs as part of our growing mission. We seek a Social Media Manager passionate about culture, heritage, and connecting Africans and the diaspora through creative digital storytelling. About the Role This volunteer position is ideal for someone who understands the power of culture, history, and identity and wants to use social media to bring those stories to life. You will help us shape how AAL’s heritage programs and initiatives reach communities worldwide, from village mapping and storytelling projects to our upcoming Heritage Challenge. We encourage applicants with a background or interest in African Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, History, Genealogy, or Cultural Communications. Key Responsibilities • Manage and schedule engaging social media content that promotes AAL’s heritage projects, events, and storytelling series. • Work closely with the Heritage & Ancestry Advisory Council to highlight oral history, genealogy, and cultural education programs. • Develop creative campaigns celebrating African heritage, diaspora stories, and ancestry awareness. • Collaborate with the communications and design teams to maintain a unified voice and brand identity. • Track engagement metrics and recommend strategies to grow reach and impact. Ideal Candidate • Background or strong interest in Heritage Studies, Anthropology, African or Diaspora Studies, History, or Cultural Communication. • Skilled in social media storytelling and visual content creation (Canva, Meta Suite, or similar). • Passionate about African heritage, storytelling, genealogy, and cultural reconnection. • Excellent writing, communication, and organization skills. • A self-starter who enjoys collaboration and creativity.
