Full Description

As a Data Engineer with American Family Insurance, you will play an important part in harnessing the power of data to guide innovation. You'll collect, store, and process data to create impactful applications within our dynamic big data platform. You will integrate these applications into our architecture and contribute to a collaborative and forward-thinking environment. This engineering role focuses on collecting data from multiple sources, partners, and platforms and ingesting it into our GCP platform. Primarily tools are Python, SQL, GCP, Terraform, and BigQuery. You will report to a Senior Manager, Data Engineering. In this flex office/home role, you will be expected to work a minimum of 10 days per month from the following office location: Madison, WI 53783. #LI-Hybrid Position Compensation Range: $80,000.00 - $131,000.00 Pay Rate Type: Salary Compensation may vary based on the job level and your geographic work location. Relocation support is offered for eligible candidates. Primary Accountabilities Perform exploratory data analysis to determine which questions can be answered with a given dataset. Develop scalable and extensible data pipelines from internal and external sources. Work on teams to develop data-driven applications and products, particularly within the space of data science. Help prototype new technologies involving data ingestion and transformation, distributed file systems, databases and frameworks. Develop tools to increase the productivity of application development and client-facing teams. Develop and automate data quality checks. Develop big data applications and data visualization tools. Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements Demonstrated experience providing customer-oriented solutions or support. Knowledge of SQL and experience using a variety of data stores (e.g. RDBMS, analytic database, scalable document stores). Hands-on programming experience in Python or java, with an emphasis towards building ETL workflows and data-driven solutions. Work experience with Linux scripting to automate workflows. Understanding of database internals, such as indexes, binary logging, and transactions. Knowledge of cloud computing platforms (e.g. GCP, AWS, Azure). Understanding of Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform, Docker, CloudFormation) Your offer will be contingent on the results of applicable background checks and signing a non-disclosure agreement for proprietary information, trade secrets, and inventions.
