The Opportunity Adept Group is seeking a Senior Packaging Engineer to add to our team! The ideal candidate would have 5+ years of full-cycle packaging engineering experience within CPG food, beverage, or similar consumer goods manufacturing environments. They would also possess strong technical expertise with a variety of materials including flexible packaging, rigid plastics, paper-based, and labels/printed components. Key Responsibilities: Lead complex packaging development, optimization, and commercialization projects across CPG Food & Beverage categories including snacks, beverages, frozen/refrigerated foods, bakery, confections, and shelf-stable products. Serve as the technical lead for packaging materials, processes, and system interactions—from concept through launch, cost optimization, and lifecycle maintenance. Drive advanced specification management, including spec creation, harmonization, migration, governance, and system improvements within PLM/ERP/digital spec platforms. Oversee and execute packaging validation activities such as transit testing, barrier performance studies, machinability assessments, shelf-life evaluations, and supplier qualifications. Partner directly with R&D, Operations, Procurement, Quality, Marketing, and Supply Chain to influence packaging strategy, timelines, and performance standards. Lead troubleshooting of complex packaging issues in manufacturing, supply chain, and distribution environments. Provide technical leadership to clients and junior engineers through mentoring, coaching, and subject matter expertise. Drive sustainability initiatives (source reduction, recyclability, PCR incorporation, packaging simplification) and align recommendations with client sustainability goals. Support or lead cross‑functional continuous improvement initiatives tied to packaging systems, documentation accuracy, and workflow efficiency. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Food Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related technical field. 5+ years of packaging engineering experience within CPG food, beverage, or similar consumer goods manufacturing environments. Strong technical expertise with: Flexible packaging (films, laminations, stand‑up pouches, flow wraps) Rigid plastics (PET, HDPE, PP, closures) Paperboard/corrugated packaging for food applications Labels and printed components Demonstrated ability to independently lead packaging projects from concept through launch, including testing, validation, and supplier management. Deep experience with specification systems (PLM, ERP, or digital spec management tools). Skilled in packaging manufacturing processes (form-fill-seal, thermoforming, blow/injection molding, carton converting, filling/packing operations). Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills with experience resolving packaging performance, quality, or manufacturability issues. Confident communicator with the ability to influence stakeholders and guide decisions. Project management experience. Working knowledge of industry standards & Regulations: ISO, ASTM, ISTA, EPR/PPWR. TOPS/CAPE software experience.
