Full Description

The Journal of Digital Discourse and Social Harm is seeking a strategic, PhD-trained Managing Editor to lead the operations, quality, and growth of a high-impact academic publication at the intersection of technology, society, and policy. This role is ideal for a leader who thrives in research-intensive, data-driven environments and can translate complex editorial workflows into streamlined, measurable processes. You will work directly with senior scholars, technical teams, and cross-sector stakeholders to ensure each publication meets the highest standards of rigor, integrity, and impact. The Journal of Digital Discourse and Social Harm engages with cutting-edge topics in artificial intelligence, linguistics, data science, neuroscience, and social science, exploring how these domains intersect with societal dynamics, ethical considerations, and digital communication. Its content often draws on interdisciplinary research, fostering collaboration between technical experts, scientists, and regulators. What You’ll Do • Lead the full editorial lifecycle – from manuscript intake to peer review to final publication. • Drive operational excellence through process optimization, data governance, and quality control. • Manage timelines, budgets, and resource allocation across multi-phase projects. • Collaborate with technical teams to enhance the journal’s digital infrastructure, analytics, and author tools. • Monitor and report key performance indicators (KPI) including impact metrics, citation tracking, and audience growth. • Build and maintain a network of top-tier researchers, reviewers, and thought leaders. What You Bring • PhD in a scientific, technical, social science, or related field. • Proven leadership in research management, scholarly publishing, or cross-disciplinary program delivery. • Experience in managing and optimizing a research pipeline, ensuring that ideas progress efficiently from concept through peer review to publication. • Expertise in digital publishing systems, workflow automation, and bibliographic tools. • Experience managing stakeholders between academic and private institutions. • Exceptional communication skills and a track record of delivering results in complex, multi-stakeholder environments. Why This Role Matters You’ll be shaping the voice and reach of a publication dedicated to understanding the digital forces shaping society. Along the way, you’ll build transferable expertise in research program coordination, strategic planning, regulatory engagement, and operational leadership—capabilities highly sought after in both academic and applied R&D contexts.
