Job Title: Assistant Resident Engineer Job Description We are seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer to oversee day-to-day construction management activities for a major NYCDEP infrastructure upgrade located in Staten Island. This role involves assisting the Resident Engineer in managing inspection staff, ensuring compliance with project specifications, and maintaining effective communication with contractors, design staff, and various stakeholders. Responsibilities • Manage the firm's day-to-day construction oversight and assist the Resident Engineer with project management efforts. • Assist in managing the inspection staff and ensure the delivery of daily inspector reports in accordance with client requirements. • Act as a liaison to design staff to respond to Contractors’ RFIs and review shop drawings. • Oversee office staff responsible for record keeping, correspondence, and drafting reports and deliverables. • Provide technical reviews of construction plans and specifications, assessing constructability and practicality. • Ensure site safety and compliance with permit conditions. • Monitor contractor performance, including schedule, responsiveness, and effectiveness. • Influence contractors to maintain project goals regarding cost, schedule, and quality. • Support the review, preparation, and processing of contractor payments. • Assist in leading meetings and preparing agendas and minutes. • Lead progress, project, safety, scheduling, and contract administration meetings with clients, local agencies, and the community. • Supervise other staff members on the project. Essential Skills • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. • EIT certification and on track to obtain PE (Professional Engineer) certification. • 5+ years of experience working on NYCDEP or NYCDDC projects. • Prior experience as an Office Engineer or Assistant Resident Engineer for NYC projects. • Strong background in civil, MEP, and structural engineering. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience with industrial construction and wastewater treatment projects. • Well-rounded experience within Civil/MEP. Work Environment This position is based on-site at a NYCDEP WWTP project. The work schedule is from 7 AM to 4 PM, five days a week. You will be part of a team comprising inspectors, field engineers, construction managers, and resident engineers. The field office is located on-site, providing a dynamic and collaborative work environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New York, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $57.69 - $67.30/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
