Role Overview A growing, purpose-driven company with a distributed frontline workforce is seeking a hands-on HR Business Partner to support leaders, strengthen people practices, and improve the employee experience. This role combines strategic partnership with practical execution. The HR Business Partner will advise managers across the employee lifecycle, assess existing HR processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and lead changes from design through implementation. The position is remote, but candidates must live in California and be able to travel regularly to operating locations. Key Responsibilities HR Business Partnership • Serve as a trusted advisor to managers on workforce planning, hiring, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, and organizational effectiveness • Coach managers through performance conversations, personnel decisions, and sensitive employee matters • Build managers’ confidence by providing practical tools, frameworks, and guidance • Develop a strong understanding of business priorities and translate them into effective people strategies • Identify workforce trends, risks, and opportunities and recommend appropriate actions • Partner with leaders to improve team effectiveness, accountability, engagement, and retention • Support organizational changes with thoughtful planning, communication, and implementation • Build trusted relationships with employees at all levels, including frontline workers HR Strategy and Process Improvement • Assess current HR programs, systems, and processes to identify gaps, risks, and opportunities • Determine what the HR process overhaul should include and develop a practical implementation roadmap • Lead improvements from initial design through execution, adoption, and ongoing evaluation • Strengthen hiring, onboarding, payroll, benefits, performance management, employee relations, workplace safety, and compliance processes • Simplify work through automation, standardization, outsourcing, or the elimination of unnecessary steps • Create clear, accessible resources that help managers and employees navigate HR processes • Maintain accurate employee records and ensure HR systems provide reliable workforce information • Develop scalable practices for hourly, seasonal, and geographically distributed employees • Ensure compliance with California employment requirements and other applicable regulations Employee Experience and Culture • Help create a consistent, respectful, and accessible employee experience across roles and locations • Support employee engagement, recognition, communication, and culture-building initiatives • Ensure Spanish-speaking employees receive the same quality of communication, support, and access to resources as English-speaking employees • Gather employee feedback and translate it into practical improvements • Model direct communication, accountability, sound judgment, and care in every interaction Required Qualifications • 5+ years of progressive experience in Human Resources, including experience as an HR Business Partner or in a comparable advisory role • Fluency in English and Spanish, with the ability to communicate directly and effectively with frontline employees in both languages • Current residence in California and the ability to travel quickly and regularly to operating locations • Demonstrated success advising and coaching managers on performance, employee relations, hiring, and organizational decisions • Ability to assess an HR function, define the required process improvements, and execute the changes • Hands-on experience supporting core HR functions across the employee lifecycle • Working knowledge of California employment law and HR compliance • Strong project-management and process-design capabilities • Comfort using technology and automation to improve accuracy, efficiency, and the employee experience • Ability to work effectively amid ambiguity, changing priorities, and limited infrastructure Ideal Working Style • Take ownership and follow through on commitments • Communicate candidly, respectfully, and directly • Build trust with employees at every level of the organization • Approach sensitive employee matters with sound judgment and care • Prefer practical, straightforward solutions over unnecessary complexity • Move comfortably between strategic planning and detailed execution • Lead by example and remain accessible to both managers and frontline employees • Bring a continuous-improvement mindset to systems, processes, and the employee experience Compensation $120-150K base salary, performance-based bonus, and benefits.
