Sr. Director, Department Planning & Operations The University of Miami/UHealth department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Sr. Director, Department Planning & Operations to work at the UHealth Medical Campus. Core Job Summary The Sr. Director, Department Planning & Operations provides leadership and oversight over daily operations and long-term strategic goals of the department. The Sr. Director, Department Planning & Operations works closely with internal and external stakeholders and assumes responsibility for planning, directing, and executing initiatives to create and/or improve departmental processes and functions. The incumbent also assists in the development of department metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to improve performance and productivity across a service lines or functional areas. Core Responsibilities Plans, organizes, directs, and controls the operational activities for the department. Develops and executes a plan to accomplish the department’s goals and objectives. Participates in and ensures that strategic planning is conducted at least annually and ensures the execution of the plan. Executes business cases, working with cross-functional teams outlining business or expansion opportunities, rationales, and execution plans to achieve the vision of the department. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures. Department Specific Functions The Sr. Director, Dept Planning and Operations, Sylvester Administration will provide strategic and operational leadership for Sylvester’s Administrative Offices including the Offices of (1) Education & Training; (2) Outreach & Engagement (dotted); (3) Administrative Support & Events Management; (4) Director’s Office; (5) Strategic Planning, CCSG Data and Government Relations. This position will ensure that these administrative offices operate in alignment with Cancer Center goals, Research Administration priorities, and NCI designation requirements. They will oversee comprehensive operational coordination across all reporting units, promoting efficiencies, standardization, and seamless cross-team collaboration. The Sr. Director will serve as a key advisor to the Associate Director for Administration (AD), providing insight into operational needs, performance issues, risk areas, and strategic opportunities. Strategic Planning, CCSG and Florida Academic Cancer Center Alliance (FACCA) Oversight Strategic Planning Lead and support multi-year strategic planning processes, coordinating input from scientific leadership, administrative units, and institutional partners. Drive cross-functional initiatives that enhance Center operations, support NCI priorities, or strengthen collaborative integration across programs. Diagnose operational bottlenecks and implement systems, processes, or structural solutions to improve efficiency and service delivery. CCSG Oversight Supervise the CCSG Manager and ensure coordinated planning, writing, data collection, and project management required for the CCSG. Partner with Sylvester IT to strengthen infrastructure, data pipelines, information systems, and digital tools used across Center operations for strategic planning and CCSG metrics. Partner with Sylvester IT ensuring accurate, timely, and actionable data for Center evaluation, leadership reporting, CCSG needs, and strategic decision-making. Provide direction in the development of dashboards, performance metrics, and analytic products that track Center progress, research program performance, and NCI-required indicators. Support the establishment of data governance practices and ensure consistency and quality across all Center data systems. Ensure ongoing CCSG readiness, including annual progress reports, external advisory board reviews, table maintenance, and document quality. Facilitate coordination among leadership, shared resources, research program leaders, and administrative contributors to produce cohesive, high-quality CCSG materials. Maintain compliance with NCI guidelines, timelines, and standards. FACCA Oversight Supervise the team responsible for the timely submission of reports required for the Florida state appropriations. Serves as contact for the Department of Health Supervise the process for budgeting and contracting with the Florida Department of Health Lead the collaboration across the Center and the four cancer centers to promote the program. Oversight of Sylvester Administration Offices (Director’s Office, Education and Training, Outreach and Engagement and Office of Administrative Support & Events Management) Provide strategic oversight for the Sylvester Offices, supervising the staff leaders, providing oversight and support to their areas. Support resource planning, staffing models, and operational budgeting for administrative units in collaboration with the AD for Administration. Ensure all administrative units maintain compliance with institutional policies, research administration standards, and operational best practices. Ensure each team maintains workflows and operational effectiveness, in alignment with the Strategic Plan and CCSG future plans. Foster communication and knowledge-sharing across the Sylvester Offices, fostering more collaboration across administrative units, scientific leadership, and institutional partners. Oversee the effectiveness of event operations including planning, execution, and evaluation of Center-wide events, symposia, trainings, retreats, outreach events, and special initiatives, in alignment with the Strategic Goals of the cancer center. Oversee the establishment of standard operating procedures for documentation across the Center, ensuring consistency and compliance. Provide leadership development, performance feedback, and strategic direction to the Office leaders to support a cohesive, high-functioning administrative operations unit. Develop, implement, and maintain administrative policies, procedures, and SOPs aligned with institutional and federal guidelines, including NCI requirements. Engagement, Communication & Culture Building Represent the Cancer Center in institutional committees, operational groups, and cross-departmental working groups. Promote a positive, service-oriented culture across administrative teams, strengthening collaboration, responsiveness, and professional development. Communicate the vision and mission of the cancer center across teams to promote excellence in cancer research.
