Job Summary GENERAL SUMMARY • Part-time; 20 hours per week. • Hybrid position: on-site at the MGH main Boston campus and remote work. • The Research Assistant will support two ongoing global health projects: o Health Care Providers' Perceptions of Challenges to Respectful Maternity Care in Conflict Settings: a qualitative study in Ukraine o Educational and research collaboration with nursing/midwifery school in Uganda • Reports to the OB/GYN Global Health Director • The candidate should have experience in research, as well as good analytical and communication skills. General employment considerations • This job is funded by an endowed global health grant. • This job is a temporary position to cover a staff member’s parental leave. It has an estimated end date of May 2026, with a possibility of extension based on project needs. Qualifications PRINCIPAL DUTIES Research Assist with research and conduct literature searches Coordinate study regulatory compliance and maintain regulatory binder Provides other research, writing, and editing support for various documents and reports Maintain and update data records and ensure confidentiality Perform analyses of both quantitative and qualitative data Communicate and present research findings in reports, abstracts, presentations, and/or posters Project management Respectful Maternity Care in Ukraine Study Schedule meetings and project check-ins with U.S. based and international collaborators Schedule project deadlines and ensure deliverables completed in a timely manner Ensure documentation of study Uganda collaboration Schedule meetings and project check-ins with U.S. based and international collaborators Keep meeting minutes and documentation records Assist with development and and maintenance of organizational agreements Administrative Maintain correspondence with multidisciplinary team Correlates, types, proofreads and edits reports, manuscripts, grant proposals and protocols at the highest level of proficiency Organize and maintain records from research studies and education development Assists in the preparation and development of presentation materials, including but not limited to, graphics, slides, posters; obtains articles from the library or web, etc. Submits expenses to Global Health Administrative Coordinator and track of expenses for projects as needed QUALIFICATIONS Undergraduate degree required. Master’s degree in public health or other relevant field preferred. Some experience in clinical research strongly preferred Experience in Public Health, Global Health, Obstetrics and/or Gender-Based Violence preferred SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: Ability to handle sensitive, confidential, and complex information with discretion Computer literacy, including proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook required. Familiarity with REDCap and NVivo preferred but not required Certification in protection of human subjects (can be obtained after hire) Demonstrated interest/proficiency in global health and/or women's heath helpful. Health Care Providers' Perceptions of Challenges to Respectful Maternity Care in Conflict Settings: a qualitative study in Ukraine This study consists of interviews conducted with Ukrainian medical staff examining perceptions of respectful maternity care. The RA is not expected to speak Ukrainian, but will collaborate with Ukrainian-speaking research staff to assist with recruitment, scheduling interviews, and maintaining records of interviews and transcripts. Assist with coordination of translation services for Ukrainian interview transcripts. Assist with qualitative analysis of interviews after they are translated to English Follow established study protocol 2. Educational and research collaboration with nursing/midwifery school in Uganda This emerging collaboration between Strength and Serenity and a nursing/midwifery school in Uganda focuses on strengthening health care provider response to gender-based violence, focusing on the impact of violence among refugee communities. The project consists of research, curriculum development/training, health systems strengthening, and policy/advocacy. The RA will be involved primarily with the research and curriculum development/training component. Research activities may include compiling and analyzing existing data on gender-based violence in Uganda, and consulting on development of protocols for primary studies. Curriculum development and training activities may include creation and hosting of online presentations and webinars about the topic of gender-based violence, especially in refugee hosting communities.
