This is a hands-on application architecture role focused on designing, documenting, and guiding the technical direction of software systems that support business transformation. You will work directly alongside engineering teams to shape how applications are built—defining cloud-native architectural patterns, evaluating design trade-offs, writing Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), and presenting multiple solution options with clear pros and cons. This role is ideal for experienced tech leads or practicing application architects who want to formalize their architecture career within an enterprise environment. The right candidate brings demonstrated application-level design experience and can articulate how and why specific architectural choices are made. You should be comfortable reading code and communicating complex technical concepts to both engineering teams and stakeholders. What Will You Do? Responsible for architecture within a specific segment or domain for a single business unit. Design and document application-level architectures for new and evolving systems, including service decomposition, API design, data flow, and integration patterns. Author Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) that capture context, options considered, trade-offs, and rationale for key technical decisions. Present multiple architectural design options to engineering teams and stakeholders, clearly articulating the pros, cons, risks, and trade-offs of each approach. Define and maintain target-state application architecture and technology roadmaps for your assigned domain. Evaluate and recommend architectural patterns (e.g., event-driven, request/response, CQRS, saga) appropriate to specific problem domains. Technical Execution: Provide hands-on architectural guidance to engineering teams, including reviewing designs, participating in technical discussions, and unblocking implementation challenges. Contribute to proof-of-concept work and technology evaluations to validate architectural approaches before committing to full implementation. Contribute to reducing technical debt through continuous modernization recommendations grounded in practical application architecture What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have? Technical Expertise & Education: Bachelor’s in technology related field or equivalent with 6 years of demonstrated engineering experience or 2 to 3 years of technology architecture experience. Recent hands-on architecture and/or engineering experience with modern technologies, specifically Cloud/AWS. Demonstrated experience in application architecture, software design, or a senior technical leadership role where you were responsible for making and documenting architectural decisions. Strong understanding of application-level architectural patterns including microservices, event-driven architecture, API design, data modeling, and distributed systems concepts. Ability to write clear, structured Architecture Decision Records and technical documentation that engineering teams can act on. Ability to evaluate multiple solution approaches and communicate trade-offs effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences. Sufficient technical depth to read code, understand implementation details, and prototype solutions when needed Experience with successful execution of modernizing technology initiatives. Leadership & Influence: Intermediate leadership skills with the ability to foster a supportive learning environment where team members can develop and grow along with a proven track record of self-motivation in identifying opportunities and tracking team efforts.
