The Mom Project is excited to support our client, a single family office offering investments in a variety of market sectors, including technology and real estate, with their search for a Tax Director to join their team. The Tax Director plays a strategic leadership role within the family office, overseeing all aspects of tax planning, compliance, and risk management. This position is responsible for ensuring that the family’s wealth is preserved and optimized through proactive and efficient tax strategies. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical tax expertise, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to coordinate seamlessly with legal, financial, and estate planning advisors. Key Responsibilities Oversight of Tax Compliance • Oversee preparation and timely filing of all relevant tax returns (individual, trust, estate, partnership, corporate). • Ensure compliance with IRS and international tax reporting (FBAR, FATCA, 3520, 5471). • Manage estimated tax payments and year-end filing strategies. • Maintain document retention protocols and audit readiness. Tax Planning & Advisory • Lead tax planning processes, including income projections, gifting, charitable giving, and estate reviews. • Evaluate tax impact of investments, transactions, and structuring decisions. • Advise on generational wealth transfer and estate tax minimization strategies. • Provide tax analysis for major family decisions (e.g., philanthropy, relocation). Team & Advisor Coordination • Supervise internal tax personnel or collaborate with finance team. • Manage relationships with external advisors, CPAs, and legal counsel. • Evaluate advisor performance and ensure quality execution of tax strategy. • Act as primary tax contact for family members. Risk Management & Audit Support • Assess tax risks and implement risk mitigation strategies. • Lead responses to IRS or state audits and inquiries. • Ensure strong internal controls and maintain audit documentation. • Improve compliance and workflow processes through automation and best practices. Qualifications • CPA, JD, or MST preferred. • 5+ years of relevant tax experience, ideally including high-net-worth individuals, trusts, and private entities. • Experience in family office or private client services a plus. • Strong understanding of estate, gift, and partnership taxation. • Excellent analytical, leadership, and communication skills. Hours and Location • Monday - Friday, full time hours • Hybrid - mix of on-site work at their Midtown Manhattan office combined with ample WFH
