As our Senior Director, Engineering, at Music Brands you'll be a key leader, guiding and growing a team of approximately 15 across product engineering, SaaS platform, and data engineering. Our Music Brands business comprises multiple product lines and we need someone who can expertly balance hands-on technical leadership with strategic oversight, focusing on system health, reliable delivery, technical maintainability, and technology stack optimization. You will work directly with the Engineering Teams, and in close collaboration with the leadership team and various department leaders, and report to Peaksware’s Chief Operating Officer. Core Functions: Oversee a staff of approximately 15 people in product engineering, platform / reliability engineering, and data engineering, that collectively manage multiple product lines. Manage Engineering Managers and individual contributors. Give guidance and direction to a third party infrastructure support team. Technical Vision: Own the technical strategy from ideation through execution that empowers our organization to deliver customer and business value more effectively at scale. System health: Monitor and improve service uptime, performance, scalability, security, and incident response. Reliable delivery: Continuously improve our ability to deliver customer value in a reliable and safe way, within Engineering and in partnership with Product, Design, and other functions. Maintainability: Improve the maintainability of our technical infrastructure including modernizing legacy systems, executing upgrades, addressing tech debt, refactoring code, and more in a predictable and safe way. Hands-on technical leadership: Ability and desire to dive into technical details as appropriate including debugging issues, coding, and providing architectural direction. Stakeholder relationships: Communicate effectively with stakeholders around key areas including system health, productivity, cost management, technical strategy, and more. People: Develop a team that delivers exceptional results through effective coaching, performance management, hiring, skill development, and organizational design. Qualifications: +8 years in software engineering as an individual contributor. +5 years in people management, with one or more years experience managing managers. Established technical background in Ruby on Rails, .NET, SQL, and AWS, Terraform, or similar technologies. Experience improving the maintainability of technical infrastructure including system upgrades, modernizing legacy systems, addressing tech debt, code refactoring, and more. Demonstrable record of elevating the standards and performance of an engineering organization, leveraging key performance indicators in your areas of accountability. Experience communicating effectively with key stakeholders at all levels, including VP and above. Proven experience overseeing multiple systems of significant complexity and size. Desired Qualifications: Familiarity with our music products including MakeMusic Cloud (formerly SmartMusic). Current or past musician with a passion for the edtech community, especially within music education. Compensation Peaksware/Alfred Music is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The annual compensation range for this role in Colorado is $154,087 - $256,811. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. This role is eligible for variable compensation, including bonus.
