Full Description

SUMMARY This is a part time, hourly, non-exempt position, under the general direction of Public Works Director. The Custodian will clean and maintain the Public Works and other facilities. The Custodian will perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, shampooing rugs, cleaning restrooms, washing walls and glass and removing rubbish. Duties may include performing routine maintenance activities and notifying management of need for repairs. Employment information · Around 12-16 hours per week · Hours are flexible and will be during the day (Monday through Friday). · Rate of pay – $15.00 - $20.00 per hour. · Not eligible for Township benefits except those that are required by law. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES · Performs general cleaning and janitorial duties in all areas of the building. · Cleans building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, sealing, finishing or polishing. · Vacuums, steam-cleans and/or shampoos carpets. · Gathers and empties trash and recycling bin ensuring confidentiality of any documents. · Services, cleans, sanitizes and supplies restrooms. · Cleans and polishes furniture, fixtures etc. · Cleans windows, glass partitions and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees. · Dusts furniture, walls, machines and equipment. · Maintains a neat and orderly janitor’s room. · Ensures cleaning and maintenance supplies are stocked. · Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment in order to prevent damage to floors, fixtures etc. · Monitors building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created. · Moves heavy furniture, equipment and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks. · Notifies Public Works Director concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems. · Requisitions supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties. · Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications. · Use power and hand tools as needed. · Performs errands such as but not limited to picking up auto part supplies, picking up vehicles or delivering or retrieving documents. · Possibly answering the phone. · Performs other related duties as assigned. JOB SPECIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES Education/Experience/Background: · Individual must be authorized to work in the United States • High school diploma or equivalent required. • Must pass a background check. • Must complete FBI Fingerprint. · Valid Driver’s License required. Skills: • Knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of various cleaning and sanitizing solutions. • Detail-oriented and thorough. Knowledge: · Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance. Abilities: • Ability to perform basic repairs and operate tools or equipment used in routine maintenance. • Ability to keep the buildings/facilities clean and orderly. • Ability to interact with staff and visitors while remaining professional, polite and courteous. · Static Strength - The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects. · Stamina - The ability to exert yourself physically over long periods of time without getting winded or out of breath. · Manual Dexterity - The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects. · Multi-limb Coordination - The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion. · Trunk Strength - The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without 'giving out' or fatiguing. · Dynamic Strength - The ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time. This involves muscular endurance and resistance to muscle fatigue. · Extent Flexibility - The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs. · Gross Body Equilibrium - The ability to keep or regain your body balance or stay upright when in an unstable position. · Problem Sensitivity - The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem. · Arm-Hand Steadiness - The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position. · Spatial Orientation - The ability to know your location in relation to the environment or to know where other objects are in relation to you.
