Job Summary The Manufacturing Engineer will serve as a key technical resource responsible for designing, optimizing, and validating manufacturing processes within a regulated FDA/cGMP environment. This role combines core manufacturing engineering responsibilities with process engineering expertise, particularly in operations involving OTC, pharmaceutical, chemical, or other highly regulated formulations. The Manufacturing Engineer will ensure manufacturing processes meet FDA, cGMP, and regulatory requirements; lead process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ); support capital projects; and drive continuous improvement across safety, quality, and operational performance. Essential Functions Process Engineering & Validation – 30% • Develop, scale, and optimize manufacturing processes for OTC, personal care, pharmaceutical, or chemical products. • Lead and document process validation activities including IQ/OQ/PQ protocols. • Establish and maintain validated process parameters and control strategies. • Partner with Quality to ensure compliance with 21 CFR Part 210/211 and cGMP guidelines. Regulatory Compliance & Documentation – 20% • Develop SOPs, batch records, work instructions, and change controls to comply with FDA and internal quality standards. • Support regulatory audits and provide technical documentation related to equipment, processes, and control systems. • Conduct risk assessments (FMEA, HAZOP) for new and existing processes. Manufacturing Optimization – 20% • Analyze and improve production processes to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality. • Apply lean tools, SPC, root cause analysis, and Six Sigma methodologies. • Support continuous improvement initiatives targeting throughput, yield, and cost performance. Equipment & Technology Support – 15% • Specify, test, and commission process equipment and automation systems. • Troubleshoot complex equipment issues with production and maintenance teams. • Execute equipment qualifications and support capital project justification. Cross-Functional Collaboration – 15% • Partner with R&D, Quality, Maintenance, and Operations to commercialize new products. • Provide technical support for scale-up, trial runs, and transfer to production. • Train operators and supervisors on new processes and equipment Additional Responsibilities • Support new product introductions through process capability studies and risk-based decision making. • Assist with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance related to chemical handling and process safety. • Perform other duties as assigned Education • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field required. • Advanced degree or coursework in process engineering or pharmaceutical manufacturing preferred.
