Job Overview This is an exciting remote opportunity for a temporary position, approximately 60 days, working at Monticello High School. As a Temporary Multicategorical Special Education Support Specialist/Paraprofessional, you will play a vital role in supporting students with multiple disabilities, working closely with certified staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality educational programs. Your expertise and dedication will be essential in creating a positive and engaging learning environment that meets the diverse needs of our students. Key Responsibilities • Support students with functional academics, mainstream classroom activities, and outdoor activities • Assist with toileting, including diapering, and provide support with self-care activities • Help students with behaviors, providing guidance and encouragement to promote positive behavior • Collaborate with certified staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs) • Maintain confidentiality of information about students, staff, and families, upholding the highest standards of professionalism and discretion • Establish a culture for learning, supporting the mission, beliefs, and strategic plan of the district • Inspire and engage all students in relevant learning, using innovative and effective teaching methods Essential Qualifications To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications: • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required • Two years of post-secondary education in a related field, such as special education, education, or a related field • Experience working with elementary-aged students, preferably in a special education setting • Ability to work under the direction of multiple certified staff, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families Preferred Qualifications While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable: • Experience working with students with multiple disabilities, including autism, physical disabilities, and emotional/behavioral disorders • Knowledge of behavioral intervention techniques, such as positive behavioral supports (PBS) and applied behavior analysis (ABA) • Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive equipment, such as communication devices and mobility aids • Bilingual or multilingual skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students and families from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds Skills and Competencies To excel in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and competencies: • Patience and empathy: the ability to work with students with diverse needs, providing support and guidance in a patient and empathetic manner • Communication skills: effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families • Flexibility and adaptability: the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adapting to changing circumstances and priorities • Teamwork and collaboration: the ability to work collaboratively with certified staff, contributing to the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs) • Problem-solving and critical thinking: the ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and implement effective strategies to support student learning and behavior Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Monticello Public School District, we are committed to supporting the ongoing growth and development of our staff.
