About the Role We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraprofessional - PreK Support Specialist to join our team of educators and support staff. As a paraprofessional, you will play a vital role in supporting the instructional and personal needs of our youngest students, working closely with teachers and other staff members to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment. Key Responsibilities • Assist in the instruction of students with disabilities under the direct supervision of a fully certified teacher, including preparing materials, providing supplemental and follow-up activities, and participating in parent-teacher conferences • Support students with diverse needs, including those with disabilities, English language learners, and students from diverse cultural backgrounds • Maintain a positive and respectful attitude, upholding the ethical standards of Waukegan Public Schools and adhering to district policies and procedures • Assist with classroom record-keeping, operation of classroom equipment, and maintaining a safe and organized learning environment • Provide one-on-one assistance to students as needed, including support with personal care needs such as toileting, dressing, and feeding • Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge, staying up-to-date on best practices in education and support services Essential Qualifications • Professional Educators License Endorsement(s): Paraprofessional Educator Pre-Kindergarten through Age 21 • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in education, child development, or a related field preferred • Experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, parents, and other staff members • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion • Physical ability to lift, move, and position students as needed, as well as to supervise students during outdoor activities Preferred Qualifications • Bilingual or multilingual skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students and families from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds • Experience working with students with disabilities, including those with autism, physical disabilities, and other special needs • Knowledge of child development principles, including cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development • Familiarity with educational technology, including learning management systems and adaptive software • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing multiple tasks and responsibilities while maintaining a positive and patient attitude Skills and Competencies • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, teachers, and families • Patience, empathy, and understanding, with the ability to work effectively with students who may be experiencing challenges or difficulties • Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to adjust to changing circumstances and priorities • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and seeking support when needed • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits At Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60, we are committed to supporting the professional growth and development of our staff members.
