Description The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Facilities Operations Branch is seeking to hire a student assistant to draft modular system furniture (MSF) using AutoCAD including reviewing floor/site plans with adjustments, as needed. Additional duties include administrative support to update spreadsheets/databases and construction planning/projects. After training, the position will be hybrid with both teleworking and in office work at the Sacramento headquarters. Requirements Conditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Prerequisites Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list. Majors/Fields of Study Architecture or Architectural related field, Construction Management, Design, or Interior Design Work Schedule Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor. Hybrid schedule after training; teleworking and in office at Sacramento headquarters. Additional Work Schedule Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer). Compensation $16.50 to $21.65 per hour Minimum Qualifications • Ability to work cooperatively and professionally with technical and non-technical staff, including designers, project managers, and administrative personnel. • Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to draw conclusions, summarize findings, and present information clearly. • Demonstrated reliability with consistent and punctual attendance. • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in drafting, data entry, and document review. • Ability to take direction, ask questions when needed, and exercise initiative to complete assignments independently. • Proficiency with basic office productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, spreadsheets, and databases) and the ability to learn new software and systems quickly. • Foundational experience with AutoCAD, including creating, editing, and managing drawings or layouts. Preferred Qualifications • Enrollment in or completion of coursework in Architecture, Design, Interior Design, Construction Management, or a related field (no minimum number of courses required). • Interest in and basic understanding of architecture, design principles, interior space planning, and AutoCAD drafting. • Familiarity with project coordination or space planning tasks is a plus. Duties and Responsibilities The student will learn and assist with the following tasks: • Perform Master Plan management in AutoCAD. • Plan review/comment, occupancy load review, calculations, and verifications. • Participate in project meetings (construction, design, etc.). • Draft plans for internal configurations, including modular systems furniture (MSF) design. • Plan management for MSF in AutoCAD. • Manage MSF inventories and databases for components, parts, etc. • Coordinate, facilitate, and manage MSF warranty and non-warranty repair services. • Review, compare, and update information in databases, spreadsheets, and other fiscal, real estate, and legal documents. • Initiate and coordinate submittals for department requests (lease renewals, site searches, etc.) through a Department of General Services customer portal. • Review invoices such as building maintenance, State Fire Marshal inspections, utilities, and property taxes for accuracy, process for payment. Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office environment. This position will be hybrid after training, teleworking and in office at Sacramento headquarters. Students/Employees will be required to work according to the current UEI remote workplace policy and sign a UEI Work from Home Agreement. The decision to permit an employee to work from home is at the discretion of the supervisor or employer and may, at any time and with or without cause, unilaterally terminate the option to work from home.
