Full Description

A well-established real estate organization is seeking a Senior Property Accountant to support a portfolio of residential communities. This role is fully remote, but candidates must be based in the Northern Virginia or Washington, D.C. area due to periodic in-office needs such as check runs, mail processing, and occasional team collaboration. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys steady, full-cycle property accounting work, values stability, and wants to join a highly supportive accounting team with long-term tenure. Location Requirement: Must live in Northern Virginia or Washington, D.C. Responsibilities • Manage day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of residential properties (including affordable housing assets) • Prepare accurate monthly financial statements • Analyze operating revenue and expense variances • Reconcile bank statements, balance sheet accounts, and general ledger activity • Process debt service payments, owner distributions, and tax/insurance payments • Complete personal property tax filings and business license requirements • Post monthly accruals and collaborate with property and regional managers • Maintain equity schedules and prepare reserve filings • Assist with annual budgets, reforecasts, and cash flow projections • Support year-end audit preparation and respond to audit inquiries • Communicate regularly with site and operations teams • Identify opportunities for process improvements Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from a U.S. institution (required) • 5–7+ years of residential property accounting experience • Affordable housing property management accounting experience strongly preferred • Yardi or MRI experience required (Yardi preferred) • Strong understanding of GAAP • Advanced Excel (VLOOKUP, PivotTables, SUMIFs) • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities • Able to handle multiple properties and deadlines independently What’s In It for You • Fully remote work with minimal required onsite visits • Very stable accounting team with long-tenured leadership • Collaborative and supportive work environment • Excellent work-life balance If you meet the qualifications and are looking for a long-term, stable remote opportunity within the real estate accounting space, we encourage you to apply.
