Imagine every digital system in a company works like a big library. A Database Administrator (DBA) is the person who makes sure the library stays organized, fast, safe, and always available. In this position, you take all the “books” (data) stored on older servers and move them into the cloud (Azure). Once everything is in Azure, you make sure the system works fast, stays healthy, is backed up, and can be restored if something goes wrong. The job is very hands-on: you tune SQL queries, fix performance problems, keep servers updated, and make sure databases never go offline. This is a senior hands-on technical role. Tasks Role Summary A senior technical position responsible for migrating, maintaining, and optimizing SQL Server databases in Azure. The DBA works within a small team that manages production database environments and supports large-scale data migrations. The role includes performance tuning, backup/recovery, troubleshooting, patching, and ensuring the reliability of core systems. Migrate SQL Server databases from on-prem environments to Microsoft Azure (Azure SQL / Azure VMs). Maintain, monitor, and optimize databases running in Azure. Ensure high availability, resilience, and disaster recovery capability. Troubleshoot database integrity and performance issues in production environments. Write and optimize SQL code (procedures, functions, indexes, triggers). Manage daily SQL Server operations, backups, patches, and updates. Support development teams during new features, data conversions, and releases. Implement and maintain database security and compliance standards. Contribute to database design for new and existing applications. Maintain documentation, operational procedures, and DR plans. Requirements 5+ years of SQL Server database administration in complex production environments. Proven experience migrating SQL Server workloads to Azure. Strong knowledge of SQL Server 2016+ and core database concepts. Advanced skills in T-SQL, performance tuning, execution plans, and query optimization. Experience resolving production issues related to performance, indexing, blocking, corruption, etc. Experience maintaining SQL Server on Azure VMs and Azure SQL Databases. Familiarity with development lifecycle tools (Azure DevOps / TFS). Nice to Have High Availability: AlwaysOn, Failover Groups. SQL Server Replication. Service Broker. SSIS / SSRS / SSAS. Experience designing DR strategies. Ability to advise on cloud-architecture best practices. Benefits This position is only for US Candidates, everywhere. (availability to travel to Oregon for the onboarding/equipament) The hourly rate is between 60-65 USD/hour. It starts as a Contract to Hire and if the candidates are bringing good results after 6 months it will convert into a full employment position with the same hourly rate.
