Company Description: The Sedona Conference (TSC) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan publisher of legal scholarship and provider of continuing legal education programming. TSC seeks a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and collaborative freelance Managing Editor to oversee the production of our prestigious Working Group Series publications and The Sedona Conference Journal. In this role, you will play a critical part in bringing high-quality legal scholarship to a wide audience, coordinating with Working Group Series program attorneys, formatting and editing publications, assembling the Journal, and managing electronic distribution. We are seeing an individual independent contractor. Applications from agencies or third-party placement services will be immediately rejected. What You’ll Do: • Ensure timely completion of Working Group publications, keeping projects on track and on schedule. • Administer the peer review process and communicate with authors and reviewers. • Edit and format articles to maintain the Journal’s high editorial standards. • Assemble the Journal and manage front matter with precision and consistency. • Manage electronic distribution of the Journal and individual articles. • Track distribution and manage reprint requests. Qualifications: • Academic editorial experience, including mastery of the MLA Handbook/Chicago Manual of Style. • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and desktop publishing applications. • Collaborative team player comfortable working with multidisciplinary groups and with online tools such as Zoom and Teams. Preferred (helpful be not strictly required): • Law review or appellate brief editorial experience, including mastery of the Blue Book • J.D. degree or legal experience. • Phoenix-area residency. Contract Details: • An independent contractor/1099 position with an expectation of 20-25 hours of work per month, allowing for a flexible schedule and healthy work-life balance.
