Deliver in-person biology lab instruction, prepare labs, support student learning, maintain academic records, and collaborate with faculty.
Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field, understanding of lab skills and safety, positive interaction with students, and preferably prior teaching experience.
Deliver engaging instruction in traditional lab formats, support student learning, and maintain accurate academic records. Responsibilities include lab preparation, assessment, and compliance with departmental and institutional policies and deadlines. • Instruct lab courses in traditional in-person formats, with class times that may include daytime and evening hours. • Prepare, set-up, and deliver lab instruction in alignment with the approved course outline and collaboration with the course lead faculty, and within the philosophy of the College • Collaborate with course lead faculty and Biological Sciences Laboratory Technician for needed equipment, supplies, and any specified set-up guidelines. • Provide academic support and guidance to students to enhance learning and success. • Perform additional duties as assigned by the course lead faculty and/or assistant dean in support of departmental and institutional goals. • Contribute to syllabi development and distribution as directed by course lead faculty for all assigned sections in accordance with departmental and divisional policies. • Evaluate and return student work in a timely manner to promote learning and continuous improvement. • Utilize the College’s learning management system (Canvas) to develop and manage course content, attendance, and grades in collaboration with the course lead faculty. • Maintain accurate and current records of student progress and attendance in collaboration with the course lead faculty. • Submit final grades and all required reports and documentation by established deadlines in collaboration with the course lead faculty. • Provide end-of-term course assessment data to the course lead faculty. Requires: • Understanding of laboratory skills and safety. • Ability to interact positively with students and colleagues. • An appreciation for and understanding of the Community College mission. Preferred: • Prior teaching experience. Bachelor’s degree in the field of Biology or a combination of education, training, and/or tested experience.
