At Progress Rail, the team is not just building the future of rail—they are making history every day.Job Purpose :The Supply Chain Manager at Caterpillar’s Progress Rail Maintenance of Way Division provides coordination between our Customers, Operations, and Suppliers. The candidate will help design and successfully execute Supply Chain strategies and processes in addition to supporting the day-to-day activities around planning, purchasing, warehousing and logistics for the Montgomery facility. The manager will drive enhancements in our ERP system to continuously improve on-time delivery to customers, reduce supply chain costs, optimize inventory turns, and increase vendor performance. The candidate will be the single point of contact for all direct and indirect material procurement and be responsible for overall department performance. A strong candidate is one who can demonstrate an ability to design and implement strategies and processes while demonstrating a strong, “hands-on” approach to learning our products and practices. The manager will direct the activities purchasing and warehouse professionals at the plant. The manager will report to the Director of Supply Chain and have a dotted line reporting relationship with the DeCoursey Plant Manager. Key Job Elements :Planning and Forecasting: • Build and develop relationships with sales, engineering, operations, and finance to manage product life cycles and on-going demand; • Develop and manage inventory strategies across the supply chain to achieve business objectives. Strategic Sourcing and Procurement: • Lead negotiation of supplier contracts and management of vendors to ensure price, volume, quality and delivery criteria are met; • Identify and execute cost reduction opportunities across the supply base and all material groups; • Build and develop relationships with key suppliers, collaborating where possible to improve costs, quality and responsiveness; • Identify and qualify new suppliers to mitigate supply risk and ensure supply chain flexibility; • Review and approve Purchase Orders. Warehouse Management: • Provide oversight over warehouse and warehouse personnel; directly manage warehouse manager and indirectly manage warehouse staff; • Assist with setting and evaluating Safety Stock and Inventory levels to satisfy internal manufacturing and external part sales requirements; • Drive consistency and efficiency in managing and controlling material and tooling needs (incorporation of barcoding, vending, check-in / check-out, etc.). Logistics: • Ensure compliance with domestic and international • corporate logistics programs; • Resolve service issues with transportation companies; • Verify that all logistics to and from facility are managed and tracked for OTD.Supply Chain Strategy and Continuous Improvement: • Establish, implement and ensure compliance of supply • chain policies and procedures; • Maintain, communicate, and improve Supply Chain Key Performance Indicators; • Improve effectiveness of our ERP system; • Continually develop expertise in Supply Chain team to support company growth; • Complete other special projects and analyses as needed.Education/Training :4 year college degree in business, supply chain, engineering or similar field preferred; • At least 7 years of experience in a manufacturing or supply chain role. Qualifications & Experience :Experience with multiple Supply Chain disciplines, forecasting/planning, logistics, purchasing or quality; • Excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills; • Ability to structure and solve complicated problems; • People management experience; • Excellent time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize and manage workload; • High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel; Previous experience with an ERP/MRP system is required; • Travel as necessary.
