Responsibilities Peraton is seeking a Senior Level Cloud Engineer (Platform/Infrastructure Lead) to support the NOAA AWIPS program - the mission-critical forecasting system used in over 150 National Weather Service offices nationwide. AWIPS is entering a phase of modernization and cloud-ready transformation, and this role will help guide the design, deployment, and optimization of cloud infrastructure that strengthens forecasting speed, resilience, and scalability. What You’ll Do: Designs, implements, and manages the cloud infrastructure and systems, ensuring they are secure, scalable, and efficient. This involves tasks like migrating on-premises systems to the cloud, automating infrastructure deployments, optimizing cloud cost, and troubleshooting cloud-related issues and ensuring adherence to security policies.. Responsibilities: Architect and manage cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) Implement automation, IaC, containerization, and CI/CD pipelines Ensure cloud security, identity management, and compliance Monitor and tune cloud systems for optimum performance, identify single points of failure, and implement strategies to increase performance, reliability, and scalability. Support application migration and modernization initiatives Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers and product teams, to integrate cloud services and streamline workflows. Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and drive best practices in cloud engineering, including automation, CI/CD pipelines, and configuration management. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Minimum of 12 years with BS/BA, 10 years with MS/MA or 7 years with PhD. 4 additional years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree Prior experience with cloud technologies to include AWS, Azure, and Google. Experience using coding languages such as Perl, Java, PowerShell, PHP, Ruby, Python, etc. Experienced with Cloud Architecture patterns and strategies (including IaaS, PaaS, Security, Compute, Storage, and networking). Experience with Amazon Web Services, code-defined infrastructure, configuration management tools, and CI/CD. Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience supporting NOAA programs. Certified Cloud Solution Architect with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform. Target Salary Range $146,000 - $234,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
