We are an owner-operator transportation business based in Philadelphia operating a 2018 Mercedes Sprinter cargo van. We are expanding and seeking an experienced Independent Dispatcher who specializes in cargo van and Sprinter van freight, understands profitable routes, and can secure consistent, well-paying loads. Our ideal dispatcher has direct experience with expedited freight, medical courier work, last-mile delivery, and regional lanes. We are looking for a partner-minded dispatcher who can help us grow quickly and position our van for daily or weekly routes. Responsibilities • Book profitable daily and weekly loads for a cargo/Sprinter van (local or regional). • Build and maintain broker, shipper, and third-party logistics relationships. • Target high-value freight, including: • Medical courier • Expedited freight • Retail/e-commerce • Final-mile delivery • Use professional load-sourcing strategies (not just “we find loads online”). • Keep the van running efficiently by minimizing empty miles, securing backhauls, and maximizing routing. • Negotiate rates that protect profit and freight quality. • Communicate professionally regarding pickups, routing, and delivery updates. • Handle dispatch paperwork, load confirmations, and scheduling. • Work proactively to increase profitability and consistency of trips. Required Experience • Proven dispatching experience for: • Cargo vans, Sprinter vans, box trucks, or expedited freight • Experience using multiple load-finding platforms: • Amazon Relay • Selectus • DAT • GoShare • XPO • Broker and shipper networks • Experience working with owner-operators or small fleets. • Strong understanding of: • Rate-per-mile optimization • Backhauls • Trip planning • Dispatch coordination • Able to scale up operations and support growth. Preferred Qualifications • Experience dispatching in Philadelphia, Northeast, or Mid-Atlantic lanes. • Ability to quickly secure first loads and establish reliable routes. • Existing broker and shipper contacts. • Ability to develop contract opportunities, trade lanes, recurring lanes, and regional routes. Expectations During the First 2 Weeks We are specifically looking for dispatchers who can clearly explain: • Their plan to secure the first load (ideally same-day or within the first week). • How they establish consistent routes quickly. • What markets, routes, and customers they will target first. • Their process for keeping the van loaded with minimal downtime. • How they negotiate the best rates and avoid low-paying freight. • Growth strategy beyond week 2, including: • Expanding lanes • Building broker relationships • Eliminating cheap freight Red Flags We Avoid • No cargo van dispatch experience • Vague answers or only using load boards • No broker or shipper relationships • No regional market knowledge • Over-promising with no plan About Us We are an ambitious owner-operator growing our cargo van business in the Philadelphia region.
