Overview: The Senior Program Portfolio Manager provides a crucial role in the Transformation Office, building and leading the alignment of governance components and Strategic Portfolio Management functions for the Enterprise Portfolios. This role is responsible for defining approaches and building plans for key components of governance and reporting for program management at the Enterprise Portfolio level. This function must demonstrate expertise within a discipline and is responsible for ensuring enterprise initiatives are effectively governed, with focus on Initiative/Program health criteria and oversight of plans and reporting metrics for successful delivery and governance efficiencies. Scope will include partnerships across the organization to drive maturing portfolio and program management capabilities, including driving change management, strategy and innovation across an enterprise portfolio and the organization. This role is responsible for partnering and influencing cross-functional partners, including leadership levels across the organization, and must demonstrate exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, to help build shared recognition and decisioning of outcomes and deliverables, for full transparency. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with Strategy, Transformation, and Innovation Leadership to understand and define strategic objectives and translate them into actionable portfolio goals. Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track portfolio health, measure success, and hone in on where additional inspection/assessment may be needed. Lead the development and continuous improvement/refinement of the Strategic Enterprise Initiative (SEI) Governance framework and standards, incorporating industry best practices across the organization. Develop and maintain clear, concise, and consistent communications with stakeholders, including the Executive Leadership Team, Senior Leadership, Program Managers, and additional enterprise partners. Lead effective communication across the portfolio, ensuring transparency, alignment, and recognition of feedback and best practices. Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation on portfolio governance policies, procedures, and industry best practices. Lead complex work that requires cross-functional collaboration and alignment with Senior Leadership or the ELT. Conduct market research to align with the organization's strategic imperatives on governance needs and recommend key drivers or components to prioritize for continuous improvement/evolution. Design and Build presentations for board materials, executive leadership, and conferences. Design and Build relevant reports on Strategic Enterprise Initiatives for the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), Senior Leaders, the Board, and external partners, including regulators and auditors. Conduct portfolio assessments to identify risks, dependencies, and resource constraints, and other critical health metrics, and provide relevant recommendations. Design and Build portfolio reviews and communicate progress and potential roadblocks to Senior stakeholders. Provide leadership and guidance to Program Managers and Project Managers within the Strategic Enterprise Initiative portfolio. Lead the execution and project management capabilities across the organization through mentoring and coaching. Define requirements, Implement and Manage usage of portfolio management tools, ensuring efficient and effective data collection and reporting at scale. Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. Oversee and Manage augmented staffing/resource management for Strategic Enterprise Initiatives, including interviewing, on/off-boarding, invoicing, and timesheet approvals. Lead the management/execution of critical/time sensitive efforts requiring enterprise response, collaboration, and successful delivery/closure. Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities: Manage and lead a diverse team of 6-10 professionals. Education and Experience Required: Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience. 9+ years’ relevant work experience. Proven people leadership experience. Education and Experience Preferred: 2+ years managerial experience. Advanced delivery and project management experience. Advanced portfolio governance experience and integration. Ability to work and communicate with initiative program managers, support staff, and senior executives. Demonstrate strong cross-functional collaboration skills that drives desired outcomes. Coach and mentor peers and junior team members. Experience with project and portfolio management tools. Advanced understanding of project/program management and delivery tactics, including agile methodologies. Experienced in data visualization tools such as Miro, PowerPoint, and Excel. Proactive and detail-oriented with the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment. Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills. Vendor and resource management experience. Scaled Agile Certification (Safe Cert SPC or LPM). PMP or PfMP certification. Master’s degree in business administration, project management, or a relevant field. Financial industry knowledge. Experience using JIRA and Target Process. Work Model & Location: This is a hybrid role requiring three in-office days per week. The position can be based out of any of M&T Bank’s corporate offices below. Buffalo, NY Baltimore, MD Rockville, MD Boston, MA Bridgeport, CT Manhattan, NY (Midtown South) Wilmington, DE Anticipated Travel Requirements: Employees in this position should be prepared to travel at least once per quarter within the M&T Bank east coast footprint. Travel may occur more often than this and is based upon the needs of the business and projects assigned. Employees residing outside of the Buffalo market are anticipated to travel more often than those already located here.
