Build and maintain relationships with architectural and construction professionals to promote redwood products through in-person outreach and presentations in Southern California.
Bachelor's degree preferred, 3-5 years related sales or business development experience, knowledge of architectural products and building codes, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, valid driver's license, and willingness to travel extensively.
This is a remote, home-based position; however the employee will work primarily in the field conducting in-person outreach to employers and community partners, including traveling to company sites and conducting face-to-face engagement to build and maintain relationships. The ideal candidate will reside in the Southern California area (i.e.; Los Angeles, Irvine, Long Beach) as the primary work territory will encompass Southern California with an expectation of approximately 85% of out-of-office work. The Redwood Ambassador will engage with the Architectural, Engineering, and Construction community to increase awareness and specification of the Mendocino Companies’ product lines with special emphasis on redwood decking, paneling, siding, and timbers. The ideal candidate will focus on outreach to architects, landscape architects, interior designers, engineers, general contractors and will respond to incoming inquiries and technical questions, provide subject matter presentations and product samples, and participate in outreach events. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Identify and establish strong relationships with architects, landscape architects, interior designers, engineers, general contractors, and other purchase specifiers to promote the specification of redwood decking, paneling, siding, and timbers in their projects, which may be located outside of Southern California • Become a trusted resource and develop superior relationships with specifier communities • Display and demonstrate products using samples, catalogs, product knowledge presentations, or continuing education presentations. Emphasize unique product features and benefits. Compare and contrast with competitors’ products • Travel throughout Southern California to assist company Sales Managers and Product Line Managers with sales and product inquiries • Become a member of (if not already) and actively participate with professional industry organizations including, but not limited to, American Institute of Architects (AIA), American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), and California Building Industry Association (CBIA) • Routinely attend trade shows and other building industry events including luncheons, networking mixers, and dinner meetings to represent the company’s redwood product offerings • Collaborate with internal teams, including Marketing, Operations, Sales, and Executive Leadership • Convert technical inquiries into specification opportunities • Successfully manage and overcome customer objections • Maintain product knowledge to effectively present entire portfolio of products to specifiers • Assist with new product launches as needed • Monitor market conditions, product innovations, competitors’ products, and pricing strategies and provide feedback to management on market trends and new developments • Maintain detailed records of weekly activities, specifier interactions, and project information at all times • Maintain expenses in accordance with company policy, as well as current at all times • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends or a flexible schedule based upon the timing of in-person events Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university preferred but not required • Minimum of three (3) years related experience and/or training or a minimum of five (5) years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred • Experience in business development, sales, marketing or equivalent field • Knowledge of architectural products and materials • Technical understanding of building design, construction processes, and building codes and standards • Working knowledge of the lumber industry preferred • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint • Engaging presenter for both in-person and virtual training formats • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships • Ability to collaborate and coordinate with internal organization colleagues • Must maintain and carry a valid driver’s license and remain eligible and capable of operating vehicles in accordance with company policy guidelines We are an equal opportunity employer and prohibit discrimination and harassment based on any, or a combination of, the following characteristics: race (including hair texture and styles), color, caste, religion, religious creed (including religious dress and grooming practices), national origin, ancestry, citizenship, physical or mental disability, medical condition (including cancer and genetic conditions), genetic information, marital status, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, or related medical conditions), gender, gender identity, gender expression, reproductive health decision-making, age (40 years and over), sexual orientation, veteran or military status, domestic violence victim status, political affiliation, and any other characteristic protected by state or federal anti-discrimination law covering employment.
