Hospice & Palliative Medicine Medical Director Detroit, Michigan Hybrid role Full-Time Opportunity Start Date: ASAP Join a well-established Hospice Program with over 30 years of service to the Southeast Michigan community, supported by an experienced interdisciplinary team. Our client is seeking a Hospice & Palliative Medicine Medical Director to lead the medical component of patient care, supervise hospice physicians and advanced practice providers, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards including Michigan Department of Public Health, CMS, and CHAP Accreditation. This role offers the opportunity to serve as faculty for an ACGME-accredited Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program, participate in strategic planning, conduct educational seminars for health system and community clinicians, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to advance hospice and palliative care services for a diverse patient population. The position is based at an institution with one of the largest graduate medical education programs in the US and serves as a main teaching site for Michigan State College of Human Medicine and Wayne State University Medical School. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Initial board certification in a relevant medical specialty • Board certification or board eligibility in Hospice and Palliative Medicine • Palliative Medicine Fellowship training or comparable experience • Demonstrated ability to supervise and train medical students, residents, fellows, and other interdisciplinary learners (including serving as faculty for the ACGME-accredited Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program) • Strong interpersonal skills including teamwork, flexibility, initiative, willingness to learn, and respect for diversity • Self-directed, committed to the team concept, and open to new learning experiences • Demonstrates customer service values RESPONSIBILITIES • Serve as Medical Director of the Palliative Care at Home Program • Oversee the medical component of the hospice’s patient care program • Supervise hospice physicians and advanced practice providers in the Division of Hospice and Palliative Medicine • Support the Hospice Director of Operations in ensuring compliance with Michigan Department of Public Health, CMS, and CHAP Accreditation rules and regulations for medical care in the hospice program • Participate in planning and implementation of hospice program goals, objectives, and strategic plan • Conduct educational seminars, in-services, and presentations to health system and community clinicians to promote hospice services and increase access for patients • Collaborate with attending physicians and the interdisciplinary team to manage patients’ terminal illnesses, related conditions, and distressing symptoms • Perform patient home visits when appropriate based on patient need and as requested by the hospice interdisciplinary team • Utilize knowledge of prognostication and hospice regulation to determine eligibility for hospice care, relatedness of patient diagnoses, and appropriate level of care to meet patient needs • Supervise and train medical students, residents, fellows, and other interdisciplinary learners • Participate in scholarly activities in education, quality improvement, and/or research WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU • Opportunity to lead a respected hospice program with a long-standing history in the community • Serve as faculty for a nationally recognized fellowship program • Work with a diverse patient population and experienced interdisciplinary team • Practice at a major teaching institution affiliated with leading medical schools • Engage in scholarly activities and professional development
