Job Summary The Senior Director of Strategy is a strategic leader who brings together brand and engagement strategy expertise to deliver cohesive, insight-driven solutions across key client portfolios. This role bridges the gap between hands-on strategic leadership and executive oversight — responsible for driving integrated strategies, advancing the craft of strategy across teams, and mentoring future leaders. Working in close partnership with the VP, Strategy, the Senior Director helps operationalize the department’s strategic vision — ensuring the work is data-informed, channel-connected, and creatively inspiring. This individual demonstrates fluency in both brand positioning and omnichannel activation, combining analytical rigor with creative intuition to deliver measurable business impact. Responsibilities Integrated Strategic Leadership Lead development of integrated strategies that connect brand imperatives to engagement ecosystems, ensuring clarity from positioning through activation. Oversee creation of strategic deliverables such as positioning frameworks, message architectures, communication strategies, and omnichannel roadmaps. Translate research, analytics, and performance data into actionable insights that shape communications and engagement strategies. Partner with Creative, Media, Medical, and Analytics leaders to ensure cross-functional alignment and executional excellence. Elevate strategic thinking across client portfolios by introducing new frameworks, methods, and best practices. Client Leadership & Business Growth Serve as senior strategic lead for a portfolio of accounts, acting as the key strategic advisor to client teams on those books of business. Lead or co-lead client workshops, brand planning sessions, and strategic presentations to guide decision-making and alignment. Identify opportunities for organic growth by surfacing new ideas, optimizing engagement approaches, and helping clients anticipate emerging needs. Support annual brand or business planning for key accounts, managing the process, synthesizing insights, and ensuring plans deliver measurable, integrated outcomes. Contribute to new business pursuits, bringing hybrid strategic expertise to help shape winning proposals and presentations. Capability & Practice Development Support the VP and SVP, Strategy in advancing the department’s craft through improved tools, templates, and standardized frameworks. Champion data literacy within day-to-day work, helping teams interpret and apply data sets (e.g., segmentation, ATU, digital performance) to inform strategic recommendations. Foster awareness and practical use of AI tools within the team, modeling compliant, responsible, and creative applications that enhance efficiency and insight generation. Collaborate with senior leadership to pilot and refine new, productized strategic solutions and best practices designed for the US market. Talent Development & Culture Manage and mentor Directors and Senior Strategists across Brand and Engagement disciplines, helping them build hybrid fluency and leadership readiness. Contribute to a culture of learning and best-practice sharing, encouraging collaboration and cross-team exchange of ideas, case studies, and methodologies. Provide constructive feedback and coaching that helps team members improve the quality and impact of their strategic thinking. Support DE&I initiatives and model inclusive leadership behaviors that strengthen team culture. Thought Leadership & Collaboration Contribute to internal and external thought leadership efforts, focusing on practical insights, frameworks, and case examples shared through agency-owned and internal channels (e.g., team sessions, blogs, internal forums, newsletters). Partner with VP, Strategy to amplify the Strategy team’s visibility and influence within the agency and among clients. Core Expertise and Skills Deep experience in both brand strategy (positioning, narrative, messaging) and engagement strategy (channel orchestration, content planning, measurement). Proficiency in leveraging data and research (segmentation, ATU, behavioral, digital) to inform strategic decisions and communications plans. Working knowledge of AI tools and curiosity about their application within marketing and communications. Demonstrated success leading multi-disciplinary, cross-functional teams to deliver integrated strategic work. Strong mentorship and collaboration skills; proven ability to elevate others’ strategic craft. Excellent storytelling, presentation, and facilitation skills — able to distill complex information into compelling strategic narratives.
