Our client is a biotech focused venture capital fund with $2bn in AUM and a strong track record of high profile exits in the life sciences sector. With significant capital to deploy, they are expanding the investment team in the San Francisco / Bay Area. The team is lean with only 6 investors today, offering a flat structure and a real history of internal promotion. They are flexible on seniority given LP pressure to scale, but the ideal candidate has venture investing experience and the mindset to learn directly from highly respected senior investors. The mandate is broad with the ability to invest across venture, post venture, and public markets, and across all healthcare verticals. There is ample white space for this hire to immediately or eventually build out their own coverage universe across high impact therapies, biotechnology, and biopharma. Strong judgment is essential given the expectation to take on Board seats across the portfolio. Expectations • Immediate exposure to entire cycle of deal process including sourcing of deals, technical due diligence, building investment theses and cases, deal negotiation, and active management of Portfolio Firms • Tracking trends, target companies, and competitors within identified industries • Act as an ambassador to the firm by attending conferences and fostering relationships in the industry • Sit on the Board of Portfolio Firms and able to offer insight to ensure strategic growth and success • Technical background to understand the science and ideas of potential and current investments Qualifications • Either clinical training (MD or equivalent) or scientific research (PhD) background needed. • 1-4 years of experience in venture investing within the Healthcare space. Open to applicants coming with public investing experience as well. • Strong analytical insight • Passion and curiosity for a field within Healthcare • Interpersonal and team skills a must - comfortable communication across different personalities and professional backgrounds Offering in Return • Working alongside high profile investors in an intimate setting • Cash compensation and carry above market standards given the size of the fund with the size of the team • Career track role
