KC Jones Plating Company Warren, MI | Columbia City, IN | Monterrey, MX Position Summary The Estimating & New Projects Leader is responsible for managing all customer quote requests, developing accurate cost estimates, generating pricing through the Steelhead ERP system, and delivering timely quotations to customers. This role also leads new program launches across all three KC Jones facilities, coordinating customer communication, APQP requirements, timelines, and internal readiness to ensure a smooth introduction of new business. This is a hands-on, detail-driven role that serves as the front door for new business and a key point of coordination for program launches. Key Responsibilities 1. Quoting & Estimating Review incoming RFQs (email and customer portals) and gather all required technical and commercial details. Communicate directly with customers to clarify drawings, specifications, plating requirements, volumes, packaging, and delivery expectations. Build cost models and enter all estimating inputs into Steelhead ERP to generate pricing. Create formal quotes and deliver them to customers within required timelines. Maintain a quoting log and track open quotes, revisions, follow-ups, and outcomes. Coordinate internally with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Purchasing to confirm capability, capacity, materials, and special requirements. Ensure quotes reflect KC Jones Plating’s capabilities, process standards, surcharges, and profitability objectives. 2. New Program Launch & APQP Serve as the project manager for all new program launches at Michigan, Indiana, and Mexico facilities. Lead customer kickoff calls, APQP meetings, and timeline reviews. Maintain the New Program Launch File for each awarded program, including: Program timeline Quoting documentation Control plans / PFMEA support Sample submission requirements Packaging and logistics expectations Special process or certification requirements Coordinate internal cross-functional teams to ensure readiness (Operations, Quality, Purchasing, Shipping, Maintenance, etc.). Track milestones and escalate risks that could impact launch timing, cost, or quality. Support PPAP, sample runs, run-at-rate, and first-article planning. 3. Customer Communication & Relationship Management Act as the primary customer contact for new quotes and new program launches. Provide professional, timely communication on questions, clarifications, or updates. Attend customer meetings (virtual or on-site) to present quotes, negotiate, and discuss technical requirements. Work with Sales & Leadership to support pricing strategy, margin targets, and negotiations. 4. Data & Process Management Keep all customer details, drawings, revisions, and requirements properly organized in Steelhead ERP and internal folders. Ensure accurate setup of new parts in the ERP system prior to launch. Standardize and continuously improve the quoting and launch process flow. Provide weekly status updates on RFQs, program launches, and open actions. Support internal audits, customer audits, and documentation requests as needed. Qualifications Experience in manufacturing quoting, estimating, sales engineering, or project management (surface finishing or metalworking preferred, but not required). Strong technical understanding of manufacturing processes; plating experience a plus. Excellent communication and customer-facing skills. High attention to detail and strong organizational habits. Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and new program introduction processes. Proficiency with ERP systems (Steelhead experience preferred but can be trained). Ability to manage multiple open RFQs and projects simultaneously across three facilities. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
