Position Purpose: Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the General Maintenance Worker/Plumber plays a vital part in creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for students, families, and staff. This is a full-time, non-exempt, benefit eligible position, which offers opportunities for mentorship and professional development. Salary is highly competitive and commensurate with experience. General Responsibilities • Responsible to perform maintenance and repair duties which assures the preservation and upkeep of the School, its buildings and fixtures. Provide physical services for all repairs and renovation programs not performed by others. • Respond to work order requests made through FMX, by school administration and supervisor. • Observe all safety regulations and policies. • In cases of emergencies, inclement weather or disaster, the General Maintenance worker will be required to report to work and work overtime on weekends, holidays and snow days. • Maintain and provide inventory/order to supervisor for all related materials. • Provide written lists of noted deficiencies within the building to the Supervisor. Such lists should outline specific conditions or situations, exact locations, and recommendations for corrective action. • Supports department in all aspects of general maintenance as required for furniture set ups/breakdowns for School events, snow removal and snow maintenance; parking assistance and correction of emergency conditions such as sewer back-ups or water flooding of classrooms/other areas. • Anticipate problems and undertake solutions without prompting. • Provide continuous attention to quality, detail, and final results. • Required to perform other related duties as assigned. Specific Responsibilities • Maintain / repair / replace all plumbing fixtures, service, storm and waste lines campus wide. • Prepare a preventative maintenance schedule for all plumbing fixtures and related equipment throughout Campus. • Inspect and maintain all laundry equipment including washers and dryers. • Inspect and maintain all hot and cold distribution lines, waste lines, septic lift stations, fuel lines and gas piping; repair leaks and replace valves, fittings and fixtures as needed. • Inspect and test fire sprinkler system booster pumps; prepares documentation for compliance. • Clean and chemically treat all waste lines as needed. • Inspect and maintain all pool equipment and piping for main pool, whirlpools, circulating pumps, filtering systems and chemical / ultraviolet treatment of water. • May be responsible for installations requiring water and waste lines according to equipment code requirements. • Assist HVAC mechanic with the inspection, maintenance and repair of boilers and all other water heating and distribution equipment. • Occasionally work off-hours to accomplish tasks which cannot be completed during the school day. Required Physical Characteristics • Ability to easily lift 50 pounds throughout the course of an eight - ten-hour day. • Ability to walk, bend, stand, and do manual labor associated with maintenance work throughout an eight – ten-hour day. • Physical ability to complete grounds, fields and general maintenance projects. • Ability and agility to operate all maintenance equipment (i.e.: snow / leaf blower, hi-lift and ladders). • Visual acuity of at least 20/40 (with corrective lenses if needed) sufficient to maintain accurate records, read instructions and complete inventory and forms. • Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with supervisors, vendors, contractors, and members of the school community, in English, as required for safety and job tasks. Qualifications • Must have 5 years prior plumbing and general maintenance experience in a school or similar environment • Must have the ability and willingness to expand working knowledge of campus systems, fixtures, materials • Ability to install, maintain and repair broad range of plumbing fixtures and components • Ability to read and comprehend plans and blueprints as appropriate to the plumbing trade • Must be at least 18 years of age. • Must Have High School Diploma. • Must have valid driver’s license & clean driving record.
