Job Description: Role Overview: The Senior Director of Operations will serve as the strategic and operational leader for Fluence's manufacturing facility. This role carries full responsibility for business performance, operational excellence, and P&L delivery. The ideal candidate brings a blend of technical expertise in manufacturing and proven business leadership in large-scale industrial operations. This position requires a leader who can balance long-term strategic vision with disciplined day-to-day execution, driving growth, profitability, and continuous improvement across all functions. Key Responsibilities: Business Leadership • Fluence business owner for facility with accountability for operational and financial performance. • Translate corporate strategy into executable business plans that achieve production, cost, and quality objectives. • Partner with global manufacturing, finance, and supply chain teams to ensure site operations align with enterprise priorities and growth objectives. • Lead capital planning, cost optimization, and investment strategies to support long-term competitiveness and domestic manufacturing goals. Operational Management • Oversee end-to-end manufacturing operations, including electrode production, cell assembly, formation, testing, and logistics. • Implement lean six sigma principles to enhance productivity, quality, and yield. • Establish robust operating metrics and governance processes (OEE, throughput, yield, cost per kWh, and safety). • Drive standardization of systems and processes to ensure scalability and reliability as production volumes increase. Technical & Process Leadership • Provide direction on process design, equipment selection, and manufacturing technology to achieve best-in-class performance. • Partner closely with Fluence's product and engineering teams to industrialize new cell chemistries and scale pilot technologies into mass production. Financial Accountability • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cost control across operations, capital projects, and materials management. • Deliver targeted profitability and cost-per-unit reductions through process optimization and supplier collaboration. People & Culture • Oversee and develop high-performing operations organization, fostering collaboration across manufacturing, engineering, quality, and support functions. • Drive a culture of safety, accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement. Required Qualifications and Experience: • 15+ years of progressive manufacturing experience, including 7+ years in battery cell or related electrochemical manufacturing. • Demonstrated P&L ownership and business management experience in a high-volume production environment. • Proven success leading large cross-functional teams and scaling operations from pilot to full production and capacity scaling in factories. • Proven experience and understanding of battery manufacturing processes and associated technologies. • Strong financial, analytical, and leadership skills with the ability to operate effectively in a global matrix organization. Additional Skills: • Experience launching or operating U.S.-based cell manufacturing facilities. • Familiarity with DOE programs, Inflation Reduction Act incentives, and domestic content compliance. • Proficiency in MES, ERP, and data-driven manufacturing systems. • Established record of developing talent and building high-performance operational cultures.
