Full Description

The Company THG is a single-family office that provides investment, financial planning, and philanthropic services to a family and its related investment entities, trusts, and private foundations. Services are provided through a combination of in-house professionals and outsourced advisory firms. The Caerus Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the family office, invests in organizations working in the arts, community development, education, the environment, and global health. The Foundation is based outside Chicago and funds work in Illinois, Wisconsin, Washington D.C., and the Bay Area. The Position THG is seeking a full-time Program Officer who will bring their prior nonprofit and/or philanthropic experience to manage a portfolio of Foundation grants in the area(s) of environment, education, arts, and/or community development. Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy, the Program Officer (a new position) will play a key role in shaping and advancing the Foundation's grantmaking priorities. They will cultivate and maintain deep relationships with nonprofit and philanthropic stakeholders and support grantees in achieving meaningful and measurable outcomes. Key Responsibilities Grantmaking and Portfolio Management: • Serve as the Foundation's subject matter lead for one or more of the Board's core priorities (namely, education, arts, and/or community development) • Manage a portfolio of grants within and in addition to their sector priority area(s) • Lead and refine portfolio partnerships within priority areas, ensuring alignment with emerging trends, community needs, and Board direction • Assess grant outcomes at the portfolio and organizational levels, identifying cross-cutting themes, lessons learned, and opportunities for scaling impact • Prepare and deliver high-level analyses and recommendations to senior staff and the Board on strategic direction and philanthropic opportunities Field + Sector Engagement: • Serve as a representative of the Foundation in the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors in both in-person and virtual settings • Build and maintain relationships with peer funders, thought leaders, and community stakeholders • Participate in local, national, and international (if applicable) convenings to inform the Foundation's priorities Learning + Evaluation: • Facilitate learning and reflection opportunities for Foundation Board and staff based on findings from grant partners and other stakeholders • Proactively seek out, analyze and synthesize sector research, grantee learning, and external data to maintain a strong understanding of topical issues and help shape grantmaking approaches • Translate findings into actionable recommendations Internal Collaboration: • Partner with senior Staff to set long-term goals and funding strategies • Collaborate closely with the Grants Manager on compliance, reporting, and ensuring grantmaking is consistent with policies and legal requirements • Support the Director of Philanthropy on high-priority philanthropic endeavors both within and outside of the Foundation's traditional grantmaking. Candidate Profile Qualifications + Experience: • Minimum of four years' experience in philanthropy, nonprofit leadership and/or related fields, with demonstrated experience in at least one of the Foundation's priority areas • Demonstrated ability to design (ideally) and/or implement philanthropic and/or nonprofit program strategies that drive measurable impact • Strong understanding of nonprofit management, systems change, and sector trends • Experience representing an organization and building networks with funders, practitioners, and policymakers • Prior experience in a family office and/or family foundation is strongly preferred Skills + Attributes: • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate complex information into clear insights for decision-makers • Excellent relationship management skills and ability to engage with diverse stakeholders. • Superior communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal • Commitment to continuous learning and adaptive strategy • Manages a high volume of work with efficiency and optimism Compensation and Benefits The starting salary for the Program Officer will be in the $125,000 - $135,000/year range. THG provides a generous comprehensive compensation package, including medical insurance, paid time off, 401k, annual incentives, and more. Work Environment THG maintains a hybrid office environment out of THG's Northbrook, Illinois office. Reliable transportation is required.
