Lead structural engineering projects including design, management, client interfacing, and compliance with building codes and seismic standards.
Master's in Structural Engineering, 7-10+ years in building design and project management, SE license preferred, experience with DSA/OSHPD and seismic retrofits, proficiency in structural design software.
Key Responsibilities: • Serve as lead structural engineer and project manager on multiple building design projects. • Manage all phases of structural design — from conceptual planning through detailed engineering and construction support. • Coordinate project scope, schedules, budgets, and team assignments. • Interface directly with clients, architects, contractors, and regulatory agencies. • Review design calculations, construction drawings, and technical specifications. • Oversee and guide internal design teams; provide mentorship and quality assurance. • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, DSA, OSHPD, and seismic retrofit standards. • Conduct seismic evaluations and design retrofits of existing structures per ASCE 41. • Prepare proposals, fee estimates, and client presentations. • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence within the engineering team. Qualifications & Requirements: • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering from an accredited U.S. university (required). • 7–10+ years of progressive experience in building design and project management. • Strong technical background in steel and concrete structures, with experience in a wide variety of materials and building types. • Demonstrated leadership potential with the ability to manage staff, budgets, and schedules. • SE License strongly preferred (PE acceptable with SE track record). • Experience with DSA and OSHPD projects highly desirable. • Experience with seismic evaluation and retrofit of existing buildings per ASCE 41 a plus. • Proficiency in design software such as ETABS, SAP2000, SAFE, RISA, or RAM Structural System. • Excellent verbal and written communication, coordination, and client management skills. • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects. Preferred Attributes: • Experience managing teams in a consulting engineering or AEC (Architecture, Engineering & Construction) environment. • Familiarity with BIM/Revit workflows and integration. • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships. • Desire to contribute to firm growth, mentorship, and continuous improvement.
