Founded in 2020 and based in Silicon Valley, Empo Health is a seed-funded and NSF-supported startup developing revolutionary in-home health monitoring products. We’re looking for an experienced Head of Web Development to join our team and drive web development efforts at Empo Health, playing a critical role in building out our suite of in-home health monitoring products. Empo Health’s first product, the Empo Footprint, is an in-home foot-scanning scale that helps doctors and patients monitor for early signs of diabetic foot ulcers. Data collected from the Footprint is uploaded to the Empo Remote Health Link web application for analysis and presentation to patients and doctors. After obtaining FDA listing earlier this year, the Empo Footprint and Remote Health Link have launched with incredible early success. This is a hands-on role – as our first dedicated Head of Web Development, you will be responsible for managing the team behind the Remote Health Link. You will help strategize, architect, and prioritize development efforts to ensure high-velocity and high-quality development. In essence, you will be setting the direction for Empo Health’s web development processes, as you work in the fast paced environment that comes with an early startup. As an Head of Web Development, you’ll also be responsible for maintaining budgets, managing quality processes, and hiring new roles in the future. You’ll work with other team members to prioritize development activities to balance new feature development with ongoing investments in infrastructure and processes. Your work will directly contribute to detecting the diabetic foot ulcers that impact millions of at-risk patients, potentially preventing amputations and saving lives. In this role you will work closely with the founders and other early team members, and should be comfortable being a critical member of a small team. You should be comfortable breaking high-level directives into tangible tasks and setting your own direction. The Job This role is a full time position, and the location is hybrid-friendly, so long as you’re based in the USA and able to spend a portion of the week at Empo’s headquarters in San Bruno, CA. Job responsibilities include: • Work with founders and early team members to bring new health monitoring capabilities to market • Maintain accurate development schedules and communicate with the rest of the company • Prioritize development activities, balancing new feature development, tech debt payback, and future looking infrastructure needs • Maintain budgets for development, including contractor spend and key service spend • Manage quality processes for web development • Serve as personnel manager for the web development team • Serve as hiring manager for new web development roles in the future • Serve as the technical point of contact with the security and quality teams You might be a good fit if you • Have industry experience with managing web development teams, from early-stage applications through scaled platforms • Have worked in startup environments and have experience balancing the competing needs, priorities, and resources that come with such environments • Self-directed and organized, and can extend that organization to the rest of a team • Have experience growing teams alongside a scaling company • Have a BS or MS (or equivalent) in computer science, or a related field • Have excellent English verbal and written communication skills • Are passionate about improving access to high quality healthcare Even better if you • Have worked in QMS-controlled design environments on non-invasive, low risk medical software • Have experience developing HIPAA-compliant products • Have experience with consumer electronic products What we offer • Hybrid-friendly working environment • “Take what you need” vacation and sick leave policy • Generous coverage for medical, dental, vision, and mental wellness plans • 401(k) retirement plan with 4% match (after employment for 6 months) • 12 week parental leave + part-time transition period at full pay (after employment for 12 months) • Equity incentive options for early full-time employees Important Note Promoting diversity of backgrounds is extremely important at Empo Health.
