Lead quality assurance and compliance activities in an aerospace repair station ensuring adherence to FAA, EASA, and CAA regulations and standards.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, 3+ years aerospace quality experience, FAA/EASA/CAA Repair Station experience, quality certifications, and knowledge of regulatory standards.
This position is responsible for executing the defined Strategic Quality Plan in collaboration with Plant Leadership. The Lead Quality Engineer oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of inspection standards, methods, and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable FAA, EASA, UK CAA regulations, as well as manufacturer specifications and recommendations. The role provides technical expertise and support across all facets of the Plant Quality Management System, including ISO 9001, AS9100, FAA 14 CFR Part 145, and EASA Part 145, CAA certifications and SMS (Safety Management System). A key responsibility is to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements through systematic review and verification processes. Additional duties include evaluating customer, industry, and internal specifications to confirm that operational processes meet or exceed quality expectations. The engineer also serves as a technical liaison, offering support to operations, customers, and suppliers to resolve quality-related issues and drive continuous improvement. Act as the liaison with all Federal officials and Customers. Maintain and keep current files of pertinent Federal Aviation Regulations, specifications, certifications, Repair Station manual, procedures and Airworthiness Directives. Manage the proper execution of FAA form 8130-3 or maintenance release tags/documentation. Manage the final acceptance of all incoming material, including new parts, supplies and the airworthiness of articles which work has been performed outside the repair station by contract. Manage the proper tagging and identification of all parts and components. Provide the continuity of inspection responsibility, assuring completion of required inspection when personnel shift or assignment changes occur. Manage inspections of completed work before it is approved for return to service, and that the proper inspection and maintenance records, reports, and forms required for such release are properly executed. Product Audits will be performed per schedule Process nonconformances and customer submittals per MRB procedures. Process customer rejected material(s), provide analysis, corrective actions and applicable reports as required per procedures and/or customer requests. Assist, manage and direct all personnel assigned or authorized to perform inspection functions, quality functions and ensure that proper inspection records, and forms used by the repair station, are properly executed prior to releasing the product for return to service. Provide training for technicians and assist in providing and holding customer training programs both on-site and off-site. Assist Repair Station Manager in scheduling, coordination, and performing required training. Provide Quality Assurance support to Suppliers, Customers and internal functions including Manufacturing, Assembly & Test cells and participates in continuous improvement activities in targeted areas Execute the Quality Assurance strategy to ensure product flow consistent with established industry standards, government regulations and various customer requirements Function as Lead Auditor to perform quality system audits to assess compliance to AS9100/ISO 9001 standards, FAA/EASA/CAA regulations and CASE requirements. Host & support Internal, Customer, Supplier and Third Party Audits as required Work collaboratively with applicable internal functional teams to improve key metrics including Supplier DPPM, RCCA responses and timely actions as issues are identified Actively support Cost-Out, Scrap/Rework reduction & improved First Pass Yield site goals and objectives Analyze organizational quality metrics and performs periodic reviews to evaluate results and recommends action plans to Quality Manager to close gaps at an operational level Contribute in using problem solving techniques & determining containment and Corrective Action solutions with applicable verification methods Contribute in the design and implementation of quality assurance and Repair Station training programs and conducts training in quality-related topics May participate in product development gate review meetings with launch activities including identification of customer expectations ensuring compliance that Quality requirements are understood, flowed down and met Other duties as assigned by the Quality Supervisor and/or Quality Manager Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution Minimum of three (3) years of work experience within Quality function in the Aerospace industry. Minimum of three (3) years of work experience in a FAA /EASA/CAA Repair Station This position requires access to export-controlled information. To conform to U.S. Government export regulations applicable to that information, applicant must be a U.S. person, defined as a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (green card holder), (iii) refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157, or (iv) asylee under 8 U.S.C. 1158 Must reside within a 50 mile radius of Irvine, CA. Active Duty military are exempt from the geographical requirement Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) Customer-specific quality registration schemes and certification processes experience (i.e. ISO9001, ISO/TS-16949, AS9100) Previous work experience of problem solving methods such as: Six Sigma, 8D, root cause analysis, and the associated statistical tools used to analyze problems, evaluate and complete improvement projects Working knowledge of process auditing techniques to ensure compliance to defined quality requirements Previous work experience in Lean Manufacturing and Process Variation Reduction concepts and tool sets as they relate to process/product variability, and root cause and corrective action determination Familiarity with engineering design and product reliability concepts and tool sets Certified DMIR and Repair person.
