Role and Responsibilities: The Perishables Department Manager is responsible for managing all perishable departments such as produce, fresh and packaged meats, dairy, frozen foods, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery items. Reporting to the Store Manager, this position ensures proper inventory control, adherence to food safety standards, strong merchandising execution, and outstanding customer service. • Direct day-to-day operations for perishable departments including produce, dairy, meats, frozen, and bakery. • Maintain correct stock levels by using vendor schedules, order guides, and sales history. • Ensure compliance with sanitation, food safety, and regulatory requirements. • Coach and train associates on product rotation, food handling, and merchandising practices. • Monitor markdown activity, evaluate trends, and implement actions to reduce shrink and waste. • Assist with staff scheduling, cash handling, and safety procedures. • Support the Store Manager in maintaining operational policies and company standards. • Confirm inventory accuracy and assist with reporting to the Store Support Center. • Deliver excellent customer service by addressing inquiries and resolving issues quickly. • Maintain cleanliness and compliance in perishable areas as outlined by the cleaning schedule. • Provide support in overall store operations and supervision when needed. Required Skills and Experience: • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. • At least 1 year of retail experience required. • 6 months or more of supervisory or leadership experience preferred. • Experience in grocery or perishable departments is a plus. • Ability to obtain necessary state or local food handling certifications. Preferred Qualifications: • Knowledge of perishable merchandising and inventory management. • Ability to interpret safety manuals, operating procedures, and diagrams. • Proficiency in basic math with the ability to prepare and review sales and inventory reports. • Understanding of cash control procedures and loss prevention strategies. • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. • Experience in training and guiding team members in compliance and safety practices. • Commitment to following company procedures and operational standards.
