The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Associate Transportation Engineer in the Transportation Division of the Public Works Department! The current vacancy is assigned to Measure FF, and will function as a project leader for professional and technical support staff, as a technical expert in the traffic and transportation engineering field with responsibility for administrative and technical work in traffic and transportation engineering, as well as for planning, design, and specifications. Some key responsibilities include: • Lead planning, design review, and technical analysis for Measure FF safety, multimodal, and corridor improvement projects, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, MUTCD, Caltrans guidance, ADA/PROWAG, NACTO, and Vision Zero principles. • Manage consultant teams, including scope development, task coordination, technical review of deliverables, schedule oversight, and ensuring projects meet Measure FF budget and performance expectations. • Oversee project implementation and field coordination, working closely with Public Works Engineering, Traffic Maintenance, external contractors, and utility partners to ensure successful construction, installation, and close-out of Measure FF improvement projects. • Support Measure FF financial and program management, including cost estimating, budgeting, resource planning, and contributing to capital planning, reporting, and accountability requirements tied to the ballot measure. • Perform additional Traffic Engineering assignments as needed to support the Transportation Division, including traffic operations analysis, safety reviews, engineering support for council requests, and coordination on citywide multimodal initiatives. See the full job description here: https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/berkeley/classspecs/105642A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in civil or traffic engineering and three years of increasingly responsible traffic engineering experience, one year of which was at a level equivalent to the Assistant Transportation Engineer class. Other requirements include possession of a valid California Registration as a professional Traffic Engineer or a professional Civil Engineer as well as a a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college course work on a year for year basis. A master's degree in Transportation Engineering/Planning or a related field is desirable.
