Base Annual: $78,520.00--$119,454.40 JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for providing professional engineering support for a variety of public works and other city projects. MAJOR DUTIES: Provides assistance to the City Engineer in the reporting and analysis of public and private submittals for developments in the city. Provides inspection data for subdivisions and land developments; conducts inspections and ensures compliance with subdivision regulations. Collects survey data information and integrates information into the geographic information system (GIS) program. Stakes out cut, fille, grade, and control points for city projects. Interprets specifications and standards to provide guidance and ensure compliance with regulations for work performed within the right-of-way. Inspects and documents private and public developments to ensure compliance with city subdivision regulations, zoning ordinances, and ALDOT standards. Assists with the development of department guidelines for construction engineering consistent with the relevant regulations, codes, ordinances, and standards. Assists with and drafts field surveys. Tests materials to ensure compliance with ASTM standards. Analyzes hydraulic structures using SEMM, HY-20, and Autodesk storm water analysis packages. Performs annual CAD updates and documentation in compliance with standard specifications and drawings. Provides Public Works designs for the implementation of easements and public rights-of-way. Revise existing asset mapping; assists in correcting GIS data. Reviews and obtains information from as-builts; maintains related records. Reviews and processes invoices for city projects. Resolves customer complaints and other issues. Provides technical information for presentation in public forums and at public meetings. Performs related duties. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 18 year or older. High School Diploma, GED and/or equivalent work experience. Valid Driver’s license. Baccalaureate degree from an Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology school in a course of study related to the occupational field. Sufficient experience usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Certification as a Professional Engineer or Engineer in Training. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION: Knowledge of city and department policies and procedures. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell. The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather.
