Role Overview The Strategic Communications Director is a senior leader at Circular Action Alliance (CAA) responsible for shaping and safeguarding the organization’s reputation while driving integrated communication strategies across internal and external audiences. This role leads proactive reputation management, thought leadership initiatives and issues and crisis response programs to position CAA as an industry leader. The Director will build and oversee small but high-performing internal and external communications teams, providing strategic direction, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and fostering collaboration across all communication disciplines. The ideal candidate is a visionary communicator with exceptional leadership skills, deep expertise in strategic messaging and the ability to navigate complex stakeholder landscapes with confidence and precision. Key Responsibilities Reputation Management & Crisis Communications * Lead proactive and reactive reputation management strategies to safeguard and enhance the organization’s public image * Develop and execute comprehensive crisis communication plans, serving as a key leader during organizational challenges * Monitor, measure and report on organizational reputation using analytics and insights to inform strategy * Oversee media relations strategy to ensure accurate, positive representation and manage high-stakes media inquiries * Anticipate emerging issues and provide counsel to leadership on risk mitigation and response * Drive executive visibility through speaking engagements, media opportunities, and thought leadership content Strategic Communications Leadership * Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with organizational goals, mission and values * Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and state comms teams on critical messaging, issues and opportunities * Lead development of cohesive content strategies for internal and external audiences, ensuring consistency in voice, tone and narrative across all platforms and audiences Internal Communications & Employee Engagement * Oversee internal communications strategy and execution through the Sr. Internal Communications Manager * Guide messaging, channel strategy and employee engagement initiatives to ensure clarity and alignment * Support leadership communications and change management during organizational transitions * Ensure internal communications reinforce organizational values and contribute to a positive employee experience Team Leadership & Development * Build, mentor and lead high-performing internal and external communications teams * Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement * Manage departmental budget and resources effectively Skills & Competencies * Reputation & Crisis Management * Internal Comms & Change Management * Strategic Thinking * Thought Leadership Development * Stakeholder Engagement * Leadership & Team Development Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or related field * 10+ years of progressive experience in strategic communications, with significant expertise in reputation management * Experience advising senior executives * Proven success in thought leadership, media relations, employee communications and stakeholder engagement * Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure * Strong analytical skills for monitoring and measuring reputation impact * Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills across multiple platforms * Experience managing teams and budgets in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment Compensation & Other Information * Location: Fully Remote * Pay Rate: Based on a variety of factors in accordance with applicable law including the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, knowledge and experience. * Reports To: SVP of Communications Circular Action Alliance is an equal employment opportunity employer.
