Position Summary Our client is seeking a seasoned Accounting and Payroll Department Lead who would be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and quality of client financial data across the company’s accounting workflows. This leadership role would oversee the accounting team, ensuring the successful and timely delivery of prepaid and project-based accounting work for complex customers. That includes diverse service needs that involve collaboration between the accounting team and tax team. This role requires advanced QuickBooks Online proficiency, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to maintain high standards of financial accuracy across multiple clients and account types. Serving as the technical backbone of the accounting team, the Accounting Lead provides guidance, troubleshooting, and oversight on all core accounting functions. This includes leading training efforts, supporting team members as they develop competency in essential bookkeeping processes, and stepping in to resolve complex issues involving reconciliations, classification, and system-related challenges. The Accounting Lead ensures that all financial files are maintained according to our client’s quality standards and that accounting work is completed fully, accurately, and on schedule. Compensation & Benefits • Base Salary: $90,000 - $110,000, OTE first year: $100,000 - $120,000 • OTE includes Performance-based bonuses tied to company profitability • Paid time off • Retirement plan with employer match • Health insurance • Short-term and long-term disability insurance • Collaborative and supportive work environment filled with outstanding professionals Key Responsibilities Department Leadership and Collaboration • Lead and mentor a team of accounting team members, promoting a culture of high performance and collaboration. • Guide the accounting and payroll team in enhancing client satisfaction, communication, and service quality. • Lead Accounting and Payroll department production meetings. • Collaborate with Operations Lead to track project budgets and progress. • Partner with HR to develop intentional staff growth and development plans. Project Management and Resource Allocation • Oversee the execution of client projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to a high standard. • Work with accounting team members to resolve project-related challenges proactively. • Coordinate with the Operations Lead to manage staffing and optimize resource allocation. • Contribute to resource planning to align client needs with team capacity. Financial Oversight • Monitor the financial performance of the accounting and payroll department and identify opportunities for revenue growth. • Analyze engagement profitability and budget adherence. • Ensure accurate and timely billing across all engagements. • Recommend adjustments or upselling opportunities based on evolving client needs. Client Management • Serve as the escalation point for complex client matters, ensuring resolution and retention. • Build and maintain trusted, long-term relationships with clients by understanding their business and personal goals. • Represent the company professionally with external referral sources such as investment advisors, bankers, and consultants. Key Performance Indicators (KPls) Financial Performance • Department Profitability • Project Budget Adherence Client Satisfaction • Client Retention Rate • Client Referrals Operational Efficiency • Project Timeliness and Quality • Team Productivity Qualifications • CPA preferred but not required. • Minimum of 7 years’ accounting experience and preferably 2 of the 7 years in public accounting. • At least 1 year of experience in management or leadership role. • Demonstrated success in managing complex client relationships and project delivery, which includes working with diverse service deliverables in accounting and tax. • Strong analytical skills and financial oversight capabilities. • Excellent leadership, coaching, and team development abilities. • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to identify, propose, and execute growth opportunities. • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace. • Outstanding organizational and time management skills. • Adaptable, proactive, goal-oriented, and committed to delivering excellence with integrity and enthusiasm. • Bachelor's degree required. • EOS experience is a plus Work-Life Balance While many public accounting professionals work 60 to 70 hours per week, our client believes in a more sustainable approach, with work hours that maintain a healthier work-life balance without sacrificing quality or impact.
