Hematology Territory Account Manager - Rare Gene Therapy (Midwest Region) Territory: Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin Role Type: Field-Based, Demand Generation & Clinical Engagement Overview A leading biotech organization developing transformative gene therapies is seeking a Hematology Territory Account Manager to accelerate patient access and adoption of a breakthrough therapy for Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and Transfusion-Dependent β-Thalassemia (TDT). This role is focused on building awareness, driving referrals, and supporting community and treatment-center physicians across a wide Western territory. You will serve as a trusted clinical and operational resource for healthcare providers, ensuring patients receive timely access to innovative therapies. Key Responsibilities • Serve as the primary point of contact for referring physicians, community clinics, and treatment centers, providing guidance on patient identification, referral pathways, and therapy administration. • Educate healthcare teams on the clinical profile, patient journey, and treatment considerations for SCD and TDT, translating complex scientific data into clear, actionable insights. • Execute a territory strategy that balances community outreach with treatment-center alignment, ensuring consistent engagement across both affiliated and unaffiliated accounts. • Leverage data and insights to identify high-value physician targets, optimize engagement, and track progress toward adoption and access goals. • Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams (access, GTAMs, clinical, and operations) to streamline patient access, overcome barriers, and coordinate account-level efforts. • Maintain deep clinical expertise in hematology, including SCD, TDT, and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT), to provide credible, science-driven discussions. • Attend key conferences and professional meetings to foster relationships, share insights, and inform strategic initiatives. • Use digital tools and CRM systems effectively to document interactions, track performance, and inform strategic decision-making. • Operate ethically, compliantly, and professionally at all times while managing a large, dynamic territory. Qualifications Experience & Background • Bachelor’s degree required • 5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotech sales, ideally in rare disease, hematology, cell/gene therapy, or related specialty products • Proven ability to launch or manage complex therapies in hospital, specialty, or multi-site care settings • Familiarity with infused biologics, hospital operations, and therapy distribution models • Strong understanding of clinical workflows and provider decision-making in hematology and rare disease • Comfortable navigating community and referral networks, influencing without formal authority Skills & Attributes • Exceptional communication skills - able to present scientific data clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate insights into actionable account plans • Highly self-motivated, resilient, and capable of managing a large, dispersed territory with 50–100% travel • Collaborative team player with emotional intelligence, able to partner effectively across functions • Comfortable leveraging digital tools for customer engagement and data-driven decision-making Why This Role Matters Patients with SCD and TDT face significant challenges accessing innovative therapies.
